- Vice-Captaincy Candidates
STEELE v Eagles
- L3 v Eagles: 78, 72, 65 (72 av.)
- L3 @ G: 167, 92, 86 (115 av.)
With the Eagles severely depleted engine room, it’s hard to see in a scenario in which Steele doesn’t dominate CBs and stoppages tonight. Shown his ceiling at the Gabba, solid for 130.
DANGERFIELD v Tigers
- L3 v Tigers: 149, 102, 132 (128 av.)
- L3 @ MS: 132, 124, 100 (119 av.)
Cats won’t mess around and park Danger FWD in what will be a truly epic clash with the Tigers, who tend to let opposition MIDs accumulate with impunity. Expecting 140 from Danger when on the ball.
FYFE v Roos
- L3 v Roos: 147, 163, 126 (145 av.)
- L3 @ MS: 132, 84, 71 (96 av.)
Touted Boak v Roos last week and played out exactly as I expected: with the Roos just bleeding points to the Ports’ primary movers. A similar dynamic should play out this week, so Fyfe a look for 125 with his tremendous record against the Roos.
Captaincy Candidates
GAWN v Giants
- L3 v Giants: 149, 156, 160 (155 av.)
- L3 @ G: 87, 46, 97 (77 av.)
If ROB managed 43 HOs to Jacobs’ 20, imagine what Maxxy will do to him. Will almost certainly be a cut-throat, highly stoppage contest, so you can back Max in for 150.
MACRAE v Hawks
Dunkely and Hunter are starting to steal his thunder on occasion, but Macrae’s still worth a look against a half-hearted Hawks and should be safe to deliver on his 125 average.
- L3 v Hawks: 127, 119, 82 (109 av.)
- L3 @ AO: 113, 142, 177 (144 av.)
NEALE v Swans
- L3 v Swans: 108, 110, 44 (87 av.)
- L3 @ CS: N/A
I was certain he’d get significant attention from Miller or be a little sore, but Neale was sensational against the Suns with a monstrous 19 contested possessions. With Hewett out of action, expect Neale to again serve up 140+.
Steer Clear
GRUNDY v Suns
- L3 v Suns: 121, 136, 77 (111 av.)
- L3 @ G: 104, 127, 85 (105 av.)
Even off the bye, I just don’t trust Grundy’s form. Not his fault but so clearly carrying something and playing alongside too many second fiddles. Add to that, Witts is a solid ruck opponent and the Suns CB and stoppage numbers have improved. Anticipate he’ll be dish out a low-ton at best this week.
A bit redundant mentioning it, but also avoid Satan this week. Plays GWS and probably cops De Boer.
Smoky Pick
BONTEMPELLI v Hawks
- L3 v Hawks: 97, 67, 73 (79 av.)
- L3 @ AO: 114, 130, 129 (124 av.)
Atleast two of the Dogs MIDs go large each week, but very tricky to predict who. With Worpel now out, there’s a chance Bont carves the Hawks up for 140.
Verdict
Fyfe into Gawn for me, going to throw caution to the wind a hunt for a 150+.

Thanks for the magnificent articles this year GD, the research is appreciated and been crazy helpful!
Appreciate it, Jam. Thank you.
Gawn into Neale for me!
Yep…sleep well. Late in the round so going to be stressful.
Round 17 – Captain choice out of:
Hawkins
Martin
Merrett
Boak
Rockliff
Hunter
Goldstein
L Ryan (Fremantle)
?
VC Tomahawk or Dusty, into C for Merrett.
This is just the kinda game Dusty will go right off.
Another scenario:
R. Tarrant, Hurn or Barrass
or
Move Lukosios from FWD to DEF
Move Simpkin back into FWD (not sure if he will play)
Titch into Neale will take 125
going to try this
VC Gawn C Dunkley
Best VC option?
TU – Steele vs WCE (depleted WCE Mids)
TD – Fyfe vs NTH (awesome record v Roos)
Thinking about M Crouch as a VC option into Neale. Yay or nay
Yep. Give it a shot, Aces.
Here are his stats:
CROUCH v Blues
L3 v Blues: 77, 122, 88 (96 av.)
L3 @ MS: 82, 113, 102 (99 av.)
Thanks G.D.
Those stats don’t fill me with confidence, however his last 4 games (132,133,162 and 148) do. I’ll have a couple of cold ones and mull it over.
Appreciate all the hard work u and the S.C. team have put in this year.
U all deserve a medal.
Thanks
Yeah, you’d prefer him to be playing at AO but those stats were taken before the Crows salvaged some dignity.
And, thanks. Appreciate it.
in all of my finals my opponents and i have the same captain – Neale. Wondering should i shake it up and take Gawn instead?
At least put the v on Gawn..Neale plays next day.
wighty – i don’t have enough confidence to do loops – i’m always nervous about stuffing it up
Red, have you got someone after Gawn that is not going to play…if so….
1. Put that player on the field and put c on them
2. Take off the field a player on the same line and playing after player 1…..put the e on this player. If that isn’t possible, the loop wont work….its not always a choice depending on game times and your non playing bench. This is where most mistakes are made
3. Put v on Gawn
From there, if Gawn rocks it, do nothing. When your c player game is over, Gawn will become c, and e player score will count for your non playing c.
If Gawn spuds it, simply move the c to another player who hasn’t played yet…with wbd/syd/bris to play after Gawn, there are lots of options.
Hope that helps.
P.S. If you still aren’t sure, post your team here and I’ll show you exactly how to do it, if it is possible.
ok here goes
lloyd, stewart, haynes, doc, saad, ridley (williams, gould)
macrae, steele, neale, titch, cripps, shiel, viney, d smith (schoenberg, foot, robertson)
grundy, gawn (draper)
whitfield, petracca, d martin, brayshaw, greenwood, walters (riccardi, morris)
if i follow you correctly, for example if robertson isn’t named, then i would swap him for neale as captain and put the E on neale on the bench, making sure there no other E’s in the midfield?
and i echo everyone else, GD, when i say thanks for all your work over the season – bloody legend
and Wighty for helping me out today – cheers
Who do I captain
TU: Macrae
TD: Neale
Don’t you hate it when at this stage, I have no loophole if my VC goes large.
Gawn into Neale will be common
Banking on a 150+ from fyfe will take that as VC otherwise C into gawn
T/U Oliver
T/D T. Mitchell
Comment for Whitfield
Thank you
Take Fyfe’s 140 as VC?
Just messed up my loophole for Gawn into Neale. Now I have to back one in as Captain.
TU – Put C on Gawn
TD – Leave C on Neale
Gawn call spot on GD!
