Captaincy Candidates – Round 21

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

SATAN v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 141, 108, 137 (129 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 140, 141, 134 (138 av.)

Copped a tag as last week’s Steer Clear v Freo but comes into a much juicier match up this week: the Pies. Ranked as one of the poorest center bounce teams in the competition, getting first use and restricting opposition MIDs is not their formula (think Richmond’s system over the last few years). Satan to take the Pies for 140 as he did two months ago. Petracca can be considered for the same center bounce rationale.

MILLER v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 109, 153, 98 (120 av.)
  • L3 @ UTAS: N/A

An almighty 31 touch, 21 contested, 10 tackle and 16 clearance from Miller last week. Quite simply one of the highest caliber footballers going around. Hawks been deftly applying Maginess to mostly HBs and wingers, but did send him to Simpkin a fortnight ago. Doubt he has the ability or body to match Miller if he’s sent to him at all. Still solid for 120.

ZERRETT v Giants

  • L3 v Giants: 71, 131, 119 (107 av.)
  • L3 @ GS: 131, 67, 89 (96 av.)

Continues his tear. In sharp, resurgent form. Little to discuss: spins GWS for 125.

Captaincy Candidates

MILLS v Roos

  • L3 v Roos: 130, 74, 67 (90 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 102, 72, 83 (86 av.)

Not super thrilled at naming Mills a candidate as he hasn’t been on a pure MID CBA load for a while as they back him to still impact starting on a wing and coming up to the contest, instead preferring Warner and Parker as constants OB and having some flexibility for that 3rd spot. That said, it’s North and he’ll comfortably ton and could sail to 130 if he’s involved all day.

NEALE v Blues

  • L3 v Blues: 96, 142, 106 (115 av.)
  • L3 @ G: 123, 89, 135 (116 av.)

Clipped by use last week but still had 18 contested and one of the few Lions who remained on the positive side of the ledger late. Blues missing their defensive sweeper and burst MIDs in Hewett and Kennedy. Neale very solid for 125 at home.

LAIRD v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 136, 104, 120 (120 av.)
  • L3 @ OS: 120, 89, 72 (94 av.)

It’s happened, people. The former little half back from the Crows is now M1. Priced at 702k, averaging 128.4 and a six week run of 144, 140, 154, 125, 130 and 156. What the actual f*ck. You’re negligent not to have him in your VC/C combo every week and expect to be rewarded with a 150 against the Eagles this Sunday.

Steer Clear

BULLDOGS v DOCKERS

First time I’ve done an entire match up as a Steer Clear despite it being packed with the likes of Bont, Macrae and Brayshaw. Quite simply it’ll just be too hard to pin down who will pop off, it anyone at all. Bont had that non-descript niggle late last week and Aish, despite the size difference, could be thrown onto him, Macrae fades harder than Bailey Smith after getting on the gear and the Dogs aren’t a great midfield for Brayshaw to crash into.

Smoky Pick

STEWART v Saints

  • L3 v Saints: 113, 98, 100 (104 av.)
  • L3 @ GMHBA: 112, 174, 122 (136 av.)

Made an unassuming return last week but that ceiling at GMHBA makes him compelling if you want to play a fast and loose VC this week. A look for 130+ and still tons even if the stars don’t align.

Verdict

Laird the constant as the safest and strongest of C’s, no reason to depart from that if you’ve got him. Then the VCs are pretty fluid this week. Satan the pick of the bunch for mine.

  1. Oliver into …….well it doesn’t matter coz Oliver should destroy my beloved pies! Haha but will have laird as a back up! Good luck everyone

    1. Oliver had 75 by half time in first game back from injury, unfortunately game got tight and lost points towards the end. Tagged last week too. Think he is set to go big.

  2. Great work as always GD.

Is Hewett confirmed still out? Donut city for me with Wehr injury 🙁

Miller into Mills for me – have Laird but love my Swans against North and hopefully Mills plays more on ball this week.

  3. Any concerns about the impact on Merrett’s scoring with Parish and McGrath set to return? Considering the timeslot I’m leaning towards Miller anyway but wanted an opinion

    1. Parish will ease back in and bolster the midfield.

Zerrett’s deadly, won’t be hurt by a strong CP MID retuning to tag team with him.

  4. Gawn or Oliver VC do we think lads? This one’s been doing my head in all week. Gawn showing some nice form now and is a great POD option here, but worried I might miss out an Oliver monster if he gets off the leash. Do we think his thumb’s still an issue?

  5. I like it when I can go early in the week
    VC Oliver into C Miller

No Laird for me, but Dawson would be my smoky if something happens to the earlier two.

  6. Hey all.

Boak said in a presser that Brynn Teakle could be in for T Marshall ( covid) this week

Just for anyone considering him as a loop option.

I have GD in a knock out “minor” final in the Contributors league.

So I will be playing my Captains cards close to my chest. 😉

Good luck to everyone in their finals this week !
