Captaincy Candidates – Round 4

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

PETRACCA v Crows

  • L3 v Crows: 119, 189, 116
  • L3 @ AO: 97, 103, 110

Haven’t mentioned him much due to his early bye but Petracca actually a relatively popular pick and one that has gone well. Love him here for a 140. Maxxy could honestly also towel ROB if anyone wants to go there.

BUTTERS v Dons

  • L3 v Dons: 109, 125, 104
  • L3 @ AO: 98, 117, 158

Butters will be the one you’ve got include this week. Plays at home, Dons are a good side to crash into. Pretty simple stuff for 130.

HEENEY v Eagles

  • L3 v Eagles: 150, 112, 80
  • L3 @ AH: N/A

Those who’ve been watching closely will know that the Eagles haven’t been a leaky outfit on ball so far. We actually dominated the Dogs at center clearance last week, our pressure was good and Yeo has been great. Accordingly, no massive MID scores let off so far. That said, the Swans will still slaughter us and Heeney still has a large SI economy. Solid for 120. Won’t mention Gulden because he ruined my weekend with a 73 C last Sunday.

Captaincy Candidates

SERONG v Blues

  • L3 v Blues: 90, 70, 70
  • L3 @ AO: 100, 88, 59

Not the greatest match up but I really don’t rate the Blues OB and Serong is in red hot competition and SC form. Solid to keep rolling for 130.

ENGLISH v Cats

  • L3 v Cats: 103, 156, 80
  • L3 @ AO: 139, 103, 93

Had a really hefty forward presence last week, which should continue, but will get a nice ruck opponent this week and should be safe for 120.

STEWART v Dogs

  • L3 v Dogs: 124, 127, 39
  • L3 @ AO: 134, 91, 135

Tricky week so I’ve given Stewart a shout. Know what he’s capable of and the Dogs’ FWD entries are very much quantity over quality. Like him for 130 if the stars align.

STEELE v Tigers

  • L3 v Tigers: 81, 52, 121
  • L3 @ NO: N/A

Wāw, wāw, wāw. Steele. What a banger. Just getting it done with 120s. Tigers currently one of the best VC/C options, so if you had the prudence to start him then it’s an easy Butters into Steele for you this week. Solid for 135, a shade over his average given the opponent.

Steer Clear

GREEN v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 147, 92
  • L3 @ AH: N/A

Not so much a steer clear, just a point of interest as two of the comp’s most stacked engine rooms clash. I don’t know how to read Green this week. It could go either way: Rowell sits on him and the Suns swift extraction sees them lead clearance OR Green digs in, relishes the contested conditions and wrests control of the game. There’ll be good economy either way, so he’ll ton.

DAICOS v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 41, 113
  • L3 @ AO: 99, 72, 128

Remember that 41? Yeah, this one is a steer clear. Daicos stumbled to respectability against the Lions the other day (although not really) but the Hawks got a kick out of tagging him last year. Not a sweat you want on the last game of the round. Potential sub-ton.

BONTEMPELLI v Cats

  • L3 v Cats: 146, 113, 109
  • L3 @ AO: 145, 128, 161

He nursed an ankle injury in Round 2 and that showed the following week against West Coast. I was there and Bont spent a significant amount of time forward and really took it easy out of the goalsquare – depriving him of his typical MID role and explosiveness. Chance he’s essential personnel on ball in a more serious contest against the Cats but clearly nursing. Another flat-ton. Argh. Does go well at AO though.

Smoky Pick

SHEEZEL v Lions

  • L3 v Lions: 100
  • L3 @ NO: N/A

If you’re looking for an early VC, I don’t mind it. Small deck at Norwood, Lions all over the place. Captaincy landscape this week means you’d take a 125 from Sheezel right on his average.

DAWSON v Dees

  • L3 v Dees: 115, 144, 104
  • L3 @ AO: 96, 118, 89

If you’ve committed to holding him then I would go all in and just VC him. The Crows midfield is a disgrace: uncontested, unsupportive, unimpactful. Dawson’s raw numbers, particularly his K:HB ratio, have been okay so just roll the dice on him to single handedly salvaging the Crows’ season. 125 if they can actually, you know, not to their best to burn and bury Dawson every single stoppage. If you’re a scumbag who started Fatt Crouch I also don’t mind that – Dees force an open contest.

History

  • Round 1: Green 152
  • Round 2: Green 137
  • Round 3: Gulden 73

Verdict

Butters into Tingles on my end, love Racca if you’ve got him.

  1. Henney into Steele or Henney into English? Gut is telling me Steele vs tiggies looking ripe for a large score.

    History
    Round 1: Green 152
    Round 2: Green 137
    Round 3: Henney 148

    TU – Steele
    TD – English

    Feedback would be great. Cheers!

      1. Thanks Abs.

Looking at the teams, Conway is out and Stanley is back. Was wishing Conway was named, would have made it an easier decisions.

Looks like I’m backing the gut!

  2. Got the VC on Dan Houston: in his two games against the bombers last year he went 156 and 122.

Just an option if you have him.

  3. Not many loophole options for me this weekend. Going Maxi taxi into Heeney.

Bit nervous about Gawn’s 5 day turn around and against ROB who has held opposing rucks to under a ton (R1 Witts 81, R3 Jackson 98).

However no other VC options I like and hoping Gawn can get some additional intercepting and forward scoring against Adelaide’s depleted backline.

  4. Very tempted to go a hail mary of Rankine as VC. Has a history of high (very occasionally) ceiling and I suspect the Crows will be out to prove something. Has dropped some decent scores against Melbourne too.

  5. Thanks as always GD. Will hands Hewett hold Serong all game? Maybe Houston or Gawn into Bont for me..

  6. On current form going Gawn into Heeney. With Adam’s back in, may water down Heeney’s score.

If Gawn bombs then maybe tempted by Butters instead.

I reckon Green will get swamped against GCS, or end just going wrecking ball head to head with Rowell (like Rowell vs Libba). Should be good entertainment but I think it will hamper both their scores.

  7. I am not reading too much into Bonts score last week – I reckon he was rested forward as they were belting the eagles so his heroics werent required. He will be more needed against Geelong.

So Butters into Bont for me

    1. Aha. Thanks, Nelson.

      One I’m going to target.

Great work to anyone who’s got him.

  8. VC was Butters – 119. Don’t usually settle for anything less than 120

    TU : Bank the 119
TD : Go for bigger with Bont, Stewart, or Grundy as a smokie

  9. Stuck fat with Heeney as my captain – 166, quietly ignored Butters VC of 119.

Green will probably bust out a 200 now….
