Captaincy Candidates – Round 7

Vice-Captaincy Candidates

BONTEMPELLI v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 115, 136, 114 (122 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 89, 125, 100 (105 av.)

Just enormous over the weekend. Makes sense a tag would follow such an outing, and Nash would square up nicely, but Bont’s current form coupled with the Dogs’ resurgence mean he’ll probably boss a tag anyway. Ready to rock for 125+.

ENGLISH v Hawks

  • L3 v Hawks: 102, 83, 103 (96 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 139, 139, 88 (122 av.)

6 straight 130+’s, the #1 SC player and didn’t miss a beat last week either. Hawks a nice across the ground match up, Tingles another 130.

SATAN v Roos

  • L3 v Roos: 178, 116, 137 (144 av.)
  • L3 @ MCG: 98, 156, 113 (122 av.)

3 frees against, lower CP ratio than usual, 9 clangers, 61% DE and coming in under the weather produced Satan’s first sub ton of the season. Re-enters the battle for M1 against North with a 140, so not to worry.

Captaincy Candidates

DAWSON v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 92, 99, 81 (91 av.)
  • L3 @ AO: 152, 173, 114 (146 av.)

The Hawks competitiveness and new found stoppage and clearance excellence denied Dawson the space and time his game usually requires; forcing him into close to a 1:1 K:HB ratio and just 66% efficiency. Pies with a similar frenetic, high octance stoppage profile but back Dawson to steady himself at home and rise to the occasion for 120.

LAIRD v Pies

  • L3 v Pies: 154, 144, 185 (161 av.)
  • L3 @ AO: 135, 97, 114 (115 av.)

Historically loved the Pies but they’ve become a much better OB outfit since Baird was running a 161 average against them. Still goes nicely, solid for 125.

DAICOS v Crows

  • L3 v Crows: 163, 53 (108 av.)
  • L3 @ AO: 128, 163 (146 av.)

Keays been used as a defensive role FWD on opposition HBs but I’m done trying to bet against Daicos. Averaging 135, no real reason to depart from that. Wonder who blinks first out of him and Tingles at 17 points the difference OA.

Steer Clear

NEALE v Freo

  • L3 v Freo: 87, 171, 79 (112 av.)
  • L3 @ G: 102, 100, 104 (102 av.)

I own this frustrating fool, so in a way hoping the Steer Clear acts as some reverse psychology for him. Crashed back down to earth last week with the same low accumulation, nothing outside of CP style that’s characterized his 2023. Freo reeling from Bont and being 18th in groundball, so expecting them to put the screws to a prime midfielder. Flat ton at best, tag almost certain.

Smoky Pick

TARANTO v Suns

  • L3 v Suns: 112, 64, 126 (101 av.)
  • L3 @ MRVL: 113, 92, 131 (112 av.)

He’s still a complete butcher and statistically the worst kick among 20+ touch averaging players but high accumulating, tackling and CP numbers has him in great stead. 144, 33 touches, 16 contested and 10 tackles last week and now at 113.8 for the season. If you don’t have/like anyone in Crows Pies, then Taranto could be your man vs a Miller-less Suns. A look for 125.

History

  • Round 1: Green 132
  • Round 2: Baird 147
  • Round 3: Satan 156
  • Round 4: Tingles 145
  • Round 5: Tingles 137
  • Round 6: Miller 40 (oh dear!)

Verdict

First misstep with Miller last week, but very confident Tingles into Satan gets things back on track.

  1. Loving the idea of Marshall VC against Teakle (pending teams)
    Into Bont as captain

    Alternatively Bont into Oliver

    1. Don’t mind the thinking given the match up but RoMo been so flat. Had a great fixture and hasn’t done that much damage.

      1. Marshall is due GD.

He has a great record v Port. If constable is named I’m seriously considering him as VC option.

  2. I’m considering Sinclair for VC this week because of the Friday game and loophole options. Then into a [touch wood cross fingers pls SC gods] “safe”, new recruit pick Laird for the C. Would love another Bulldog VC otherwise

  3. Very limited loophole options this week for me. All in the first 3 matches except Chesser. If I go English I’d have to make the call on whether he’d be my C in a short period of time, when I am out camping for the weekend.

  4. Also keep note that Laird has had a tight calf at training today and left early. In doubt for the weekend

  5. arrrrggg…don’t mention the SC Gods…

Your VC will score 70 and if your captain isn’t suddenly tagged for no reason, he will be injured or subbed by half time 🙂

    1. Hmmm…I may have mentioned the SC Gods when telling you not to mention the SC Gods.
      Is that bad??

  6. Took v off Bont late last week and went to Neale. Then put c on Touk. Not making that mistake again.

Bont v, then a refreshed Satan if needed.

  7. Hi GD,

With Libba out, will The Bont get a tag from Nash?

Looking at English or Marshall as VC, into Oliver. Laird could be late out.

    Thanks again GD 🙂

    1. Probably does get a tag, Paul, but like the write up said his form and big frame likely means he shakes it.

    1. What are the chances it’s Dawson?
If the rest of the season is anything to go by, lock it in now.

  8. English into Dawson will take 120. Had Daicos originally but i think Keays will give him some attention this week.

    1. Yeah, Freo nice and soft rn and probably open either a tag on Neale.

Dunks a good VC if you need someone early.

    1. I think Keays will start on Daicos…whether he can stay with him is another thing all together…but I’m sticking with Laird
