Game Chat – Carlton v St Kilda

Written by Motts on August 17 2019

Where and when: MCG, Saturday August 17, 1.45pm AEST

What it means for Carlton: After two understandable defeats to West Coast and Richmond over the last fortnight, The Team That Never Lets You Down will get back to its winning ways. David Teague’s chances of getting the job permanently will be boosted by two positive results in the last two weeks.

What it means for St Kilda: A victory over Fremantle kept its slim, slim finals hopes alive. It’s incredibly unlikely, but it means St Kilda will have something to play for on Saturday. Having won three of four games under Brett Ratten, the Saints will fancy their chances.

The stat: Carlton hasn’t beaten St Kilda at the MCG since 1998 (but having said that they usually play at the Docklands stadium)

The match-up: Patrick Cripps v Jack Steele

St Kilda has opted to pair a big body alongside Cripps recently and could do similar with Steele again on Saturday. Both are contested players who will tackle relentlessly. Steele was ineffective against Fyfe last week so expect Crippa to pull his pants down.

It’s a big week for: David Teague and Brett Ratten

This will be an important match for the two caretaker coaches. Teague is 5-4 since taking over at the Blues, but will be desperate to secure at least one more victory to ensure the best possible chance he gets the gig full-time. Ratten is 3-1 and will be hoping to keep the Saints in the finals race going into the final week of the season.

Big call: Levi kicks 15 (some goals, more points, handful of out-on-the-fulls).

Mottsy’s Tip: Carlton by 45

  4. Will gawn play next week? What about Jeremy cameron?

T/u. Risk it. Go with trade plans of clarke -> caldwell and cameron -> worpel

T/d. Play it safe (hoping i make the gf) and go clarke -> caldwell and chol -> westhoff. Covering one of gawn/cameron next week. But copping a donut if both miss. (Only 2 trades left)

    1. Not bad at the price. Actually went to the game. Disappointed with what I might call overstressed possession. Good early but …

Regarding SC, Catta put the C on Cripps at the last minute. Am hoping I can now save my second trade til next week.

Am going Fyfe or Dunks. Still not sure. Probably Fyfe.

Have bought TRELOAR for Lycett. Had to do it before the CAR game so I could swing Setters FWD.

How’s everyone going in their match-ups? My big cash League is good, so now the focus is on SCT Leagues but I’ll save the final trade for next week, unless Crisp scores 50!
