Game Chat – Collingwood vs GWS

Written by Huttabito on March 31 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday, March 31, 4.35pm AEST

SUMMARY
For non-Victorian flag fancies, games at the MCG are like gold, and the Giants might well transform into Rumpelstiltskins at the MCG on Saturday. Their clash with a so-far underwhelming Collingwood will be the first of only two games the Giants will play at the MCG, with their next appearance not until the final round against Melbourne. In their short history, the Giants have won just one of their 12 games at the MCG, but the visitors appear primed to capitalise on this southern jaunt, given their white-hot form against the Western Bulldogs in round one, which was in contrast with the Magpies’ shambolic effort against Hawthorn. GWS boasts stars all over the field, particularly in the midfield and forward. The Pies will at least fancy their chances in the middle, but their chief issue has been using the ball to advantage.

LAST FIVE TIMES
R8, 2017, GWS 15.12 (102) d Collingwood 15.9 (99) at Spotless Stadium
R16, 2016, Collingwood 19.11 (125) d GWS 14.9 (93) at Spotless Stadium
R11, 2015, Collingwood 18.11 (119) d GWS 11.11 (77) at the MCG
R22, 2014, Collingwood 11.9 (75) d GWS 9.13 (67) at Spotless Stadium
R18, 2013, Collingwood 15.16 (106) d GWS Giants 10.6 (66) at the MCG

Hutta’s Tip: GWS by 30 points.

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

    1. Learned my lesson last year, Duffer. Treloar is possibly the worst kick of all elite midfielders, which makes him unsuitable for Supercoach. Trade to Parker or Cripps

      1. Still averaged 29.9 disposals a game last year. Doesn’t have to improve his DE when he gets that much of the ball, and has history of scoring 110 without any role or team change.

Concern is him not getting as much of the ball though.

        1. Lots of debate at the time about Giants not be willing to pay him enough, despite him wanting to stay. Giants have let a heap of players go, and some have been very good (Treloar, Adams, WHE, Tyson, Boyd) but none that have hurt them. It’s not intended as a dig, but GWS wouldn’t have let Treloar walk if they thought he was worth it.

        2. Ummm. Yes he does? The more he gets the ball the more accountable you are. No good getting 30 possessions a game if you go at 50% DE and directly turn over 7+ a game.

  4. Treloar now playing as a deep forward. Don’t think he’s moving freely – had the lowest ToG% of the Collingwood mids in the first half.
