Game Chat – GWS v Sydney

Written by Motts on July 18 2021

Where and when: Carrara at 6:10pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Round 5, 2021: Sydney 10.9 (69) DEF BY GWS 9.17 (71) at The SCG.

Last five: GWS 2-1-2, Sydney 3-2

Match Preview: Sydney have been looking magnificent lately. To get that win over the Dogs in Melbourne last week took a lot of heart. Having Buddy back in the lineup does them no end of good. GWS meanwhile were already trying to remember the words to their theme song when Toby Greene took a mark near the boundary line in the F50 in the last quarter but he missed and the Suns went bang bang to win their first game by a solitary point. This came after beating the Dees the week before. Bloody hell, how hard is footy tipping right now???

Mottsy Watch:

GWS
Greene, Green, Himmelburg
Sydney
Franklin, Papley, Heeney
Mottsy’s Tip: Sydney by 15 points (tipping record 34/48).

  2. Ouch, mills may hurt a few teams that held Whitfield and had already used up some cover. Couldn’t imagine there are a huge amount of teams out there with two playing defenders on there bench of any quality anyway..

    1. Whitfield on my bench. Mills is D2. I guess I have to be happy with Bianco Res to soften the blow

  3. Traded Whitfield this week to get a jump on the rest of the pack to bring in mills who I’ve been trying to get in for ages…

    1. Me too. Not happy Jan. If only I knew before Colllingwood V Carlton I could have replaced him with Bianco.

    1. Anyone who has visited a Tier 1 exposure site must immediately isolate, get a COVID-19 test, and quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure

Anyone who has visited a Tier 2 exposure site should urgently get a COVID-19 test and isolate until they receive a negative result.

        1. Victorian classification.

          Tier 1 .
          Considered high risk
people who were at a tier one site (during the specified period) could be considered “close contacts” of a known COVID-19 case

          Tier 2
          Slightly lower risk
people who were at a tier two site (during the specified period) are theoretically “casual contacts” of a known COVID-19 case

        2. It’s along the lines as same place same time – tier 1, and same place not exactly same time – tier 2, and tier 3 is area when discovered……

          Apologies CT, you type faster……

  4. Bugger. I would have had Mills covered by Bianco but i done my Captain loop in defence, hence using that emergency and taking it off Bianco. Stuck with a donut now.

But im sure im not the only one without cover.

  5. Betting a lot of punters will want some sort of dispensation re the players out.
Just look back at r3 2020 for a precedent.

    1. Yep it’s an interesting talking point Wighty. Do they go to best 18 scoring for this round?

Or will it just be suck it up.

There will be no changes in draft as usual so don’t expect any there.

If they had the ability to go to best 21 scoring I think it would be about as fair as they could get. Still gonna be some coaches who are stiff with both Greene and Mills, but that is about as fair as it would get IMO

    2. LOL! There you go again Wighty. Nothing like R3 2020. That was a whole game that had to cancelled, treated as a bye round, top 18 scores. This is not like that. These are just late outs. Happen to be Covid related but no different that if it had been gastro or flu or similar. Very very bad luck but I wouldn’t expect dispensation. Not even sure what that would be.

  6. Wow!!

As it stands 15 Sydney & GWS players and staff will need to isolate for 14 days, in accordance with QLD health guidelines (which don’t align with Victoria’s tiered system).

    1. Agreed. The out players surely had contact and trained with the rest of their teams. It’s not looking good.

  7. #SuperCoach teams, we know many of you have been hit hard by players missing due to Covid exposure sites.

As it stands, there will be no changes to this round’s scoring system or extra trades.

We will notify if any further decisions are made in regards to this or Round 20.

    1. Right there with ya.
I think I’m done with GWS players in general. All the decent ones are injury/drama prone.

  8. A guy I’m playing had the VC on Steele, with the C on Sproule. With the late call up of Sproule, his only option was… Jelly. Now copped both Jelly as C and Sproule currently on -3.

If you’re out there Go Saints – sorry mate.
