Where and when: MCG, Saturday August 10, 1.45pm AEST
What it means for Melbourne: Not much more to salvage but pride from this disappointing year. A win over traditional rivals Collingwood would be a sweet note to take into the end of a sour season.
What it means for Collingwood: The push for top four continues for the Pies after their percentage-boosting win over Gold Coast. Can almost guarantee a top-six finish with a win against Melbourne.
The stat: Collingwood’s biggest strength is its ability to win the ball. The Magpies lead the competition in average disposals with 403.6 a game. By contrast, Melbourne is in 13th position with an average of 363.1 touches per match.
The match-up: Max Gawn v Brodie Grundy
Everyone’s favourite ruck battle. Gawn is ranked the best player in the competition in the AFL Player Ratings, while Grundy is sitting 3rd overall. Both were Virgin Australia AFL All Australians last year, with Gawn pipping Grundy for the starting ruck role.
It’s a big week for: Braydon Preuss
The ruck recruit was always going to struggle to get a match ahead of Gawn but is now desperately needed as a key forward due to Melbourne’s injury woes. Didn’t make much of an impact against Richmond and the Dees need a marking target.
Big call: Jeremy Howe loves a hanger, especially against his old side. Don’t be surprised if the Mark of the Year is taken in this match.
Mottsy’s Tip: Magpies by 40 points

NO LATE CHANGES
FINAL INTERCHANGES
Melbourne: James Harmes, Jordan Lewis, Michael Hibberd, Kyle Dunkley
Collingwood: Chris Mayne, Travis Varcoe, Josh Thomas, Rupert Wills
T/u – VC Gawn or Grundy
T/d – Stay away from the matchup
Gawn the better ruckman but Grundy will try his heart out to re-gain some dignity after last time. Think both will put up awkward VC scores, steer clear.
Neale VC into Macrae better option GD?
Yep. That’s what I’m doing, Andy.
I’m doing Dangerfield into Cripps.
Hopefully they come out firing.
King Gawn will score a low possession 115ish? While Grundy will grit a messy 123 with lots of tackles in the wet.
Yeah. Something like that, TR.
Dusty out tomorrow for those who haven’t heard
Dusty out just my luck used last trade on him
Jeff Farmer and Peter Daicos were having a goal kicking comp before the warm up.
Probably more entertaining than the actually game thus far.
Yeah, what/why am I even watching.
Terrible for SC as well.
port syd is a good game
always nice to wake up & see your capt & vice already playing in the same game , doh !
Ouch. I still had the VC on Gawn from last week; I meant to change it last night, but didn’t, and woke up five minutes after the lockout. But at least I still have the C to play with.
last week i cad the C on gawn before my VC grundy had even played
forgot to change it again this week
Rise, Satan (Oliver), rise!
Seriously. Do something, you red devil.
CRISP is spudding it up again!
30 percent DE will tend to have that effect, unfortunately.

Can someone explain the difference between Satan and Treloars score? Treloar a few more contested touches and slightly better DE, less kicks and half the tackles of Satan…. maybe a sneaky goal assist or contested mark?
Is Oliver getting robbed?
would love score anomaly on him please
26 and 11 tackles at 70% for 80????
Clayton OLIVER
24 disps (12 contested) @ 71%
11 kicks, 13 handballs
6 turnovers
3 intercept possies
4 score involvements and
7 marks (all uncontested)
32 pressure acts and 243 metres gained
6 clearances
11 tackles
Free-kicks 2/2
has 124 afl fantasy pts
7 clangers too will have put him back, but 79 SC pts?!? has to be stiff
Surely Satan gets scaled to 135…
WHO IS THE BEST RUCKMEN
TU: GAWN
TD: GRUNDY
reckon GAWN is the better, purely on RUCK work. Think I’d rather have Grundy in my team tho’. Just
Grundy is quite messy, racks up numbers which don’t mean that much. His hit outs are messy too, while Gawn is he a great HO to A rate. Both good however
Gawn , D’s top scorer with 85

Oliver played a 10 point better game, and his 5 more flangers should’ve nullified that. Both should be around 115
Gawn 85 on the siren
scaled up to 99 , nice
