Updated: Monday, August 6

Early prognosis

The Magpies lost another key defender after Moore had further hamstring issues in the loss to Sydney. In better news, Howe should return for the must-win clash with Brisbane at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night and De Goey is an outside chance. Goldsack is odds-on to make a rapid comeback in the VFL, likely in defence given injuries, and could be joined by Reid and Appleby, but Elliott is at least a fortnight away. Treloar holds out hope of making it back, but Scharenberg, Dunn, Wells and Broomhead won’t play again this season. The club continues to monitor Kirby’s heart issue. – Ben Collins

Updated: Tuesday, August 7

Early prognosis

Injuring his shoulder in the last five minutes against Richmond, Bews looks unlikely. Stewart ran strongly at training last week and will need to train on Thursday to be considered. It also looms as an important session for Taylor as he bids to return from his latest foot complaint. Ratugolea worked on his agility last week as he eyes a September return, should the Cats qualify. Crameri and McCarthy may finally return from lay-offs. – Mitch Cleary

Early prognosis

Shiel, Griffen, Reid and Taranto could all be fit to take on Adelaide in Canberra, and their return couldn’t come at a better time. Simpson and Deledio face an uphill battle to get back this year, while Greene and Taylor will likely not play again until the finals. – Adam Curley

 Will Langford  Hamstring  3 weeks
 Mitch Lewis  Shoulder  1-2 weeks

 James Sicily  Wrist  3 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, August 7

Early prognosis

The good news is that McEvoy is back training and could return for the clash with the Saints on Saturday week, which would give him two matches under his belt before the finals if the Hawks make it. Birchall appears set to finally resume before the end of the season and Sicily is back training. Langford’s hopes of a senior recall are now likely dashed because of a hamstring strain. – Ashley Browne

Melksham will face a fitness test at the main training later in the week to see whether he can get up for the Sydney game. A series of other players, headlined by Garner and Morgan, also need to pass tests to play this weekend. Jacobs’ situation is unclear, but he is back training. The Roos elected to put Watson in cotton wool and get him ready for pre-season.Marc McGowan

Key defender Howard could return for Saturday’s clash with West Coast after missing the past two games with a hand injury. Outside runner Amon will be out for at least another week with a knee injury. Young forward Marshall has tendon damage in his foot that will sideline him for at least a couple of weeks. Marshall sprained his ankle in a SANFL game on July 15. – Lee Gaskin

RICHMOND

 Bachar Houli  Groin  Available
 Oleg Markov  Knee  3-4 weeks
 Dion Prestia  Ribs  Test
 Tyson Stengle  Ankle  Test
Updated: Monday, August 6

Early prognosis

There could be a bit of action at the selection table this Thursday with up to four premiership players a chance to put their hands up. Broad, Prestia, Graham and Houli could all be in the frame, although the latter two could build match fitness in the VFL against Williamstown on Saturday. Butler needs at least another week but the Tigers’ VFL bye in a fortnight complicates his return to AFL level. Conca could make a remarkable return in the VFL this week just 44 days after his dramatic ankle dislocation. Stengle should be right to play after an ankle injury but Bolton is less of a certainty. Rookie Eggmolesse-Smith could play VFL for the first time this season after a long battle with a lower leg stress fracture. Drummond’s return date remains cloudy after successful surgery last week to fix recurrent hamstring strains. – Jennifer Phelan

Updated: Tuesday, August 7

Early prognosis

Battle is out but Austin should be set to resume after a groin injury, whether that be in the senior side or for Sandringham. A hamstring tendon issue has ruled Hickey out for the year, leaving the club short on ruckmen, considering Longer won’t play again in 2018 after ankle surgery. – Dinny Navaratnam
