  4. So if I purposely choose to punch someone I get a fine
If I make an accidental tackle when a player hits their head on the ground I get suspended….
    What a pathetic ruling system

  5. With probable ‘keepers’ in Sicily Laird Oliver Darcy + Ratagulea for me not playing it is going to be very hard to get 18 on the field.

    C’mon Dew – play Constable.
Hopefully Cincotta gets a game and Chesser for what it’s worth.

    1. “What would a reasonable player have done in Adam Cerra’s circumstances? The first thing to note is that Cerra enters the tackle with some lack of balance as he’s pushed from behind.

“The second thing to note is that he has no alternative but to drop his centre of gravity to avoid being pushed face-first into Hickey’s arm.

“Thirdly, he manages to anchor his left leg to try and get some purchase on a much taller and heavier opponent.

“While it’s true Hickey falls across that leg and Cerra contributes to that fall, it was not unreasonable for him to anchor himself in this way.

“Fourthly and importantly, Cerra has only a light grip on Hickey’s arms. They are not truly pinned and a reasonable player in Cerra’s circumstances would know that Hickey could use one or both of these arms to break his fall.

“As a result, we find this was not a dangerous tackle.”

  7. Rory Laird is successful with his appeal against a one week ban for a dangerous tackle.

    Key reasons:

Players are taken to know if they rotate a player in a tackle so a player’s head is likely to collide with the ground with some force, they will likely have committed a dangerous tackle.

Rotational tackles can happen very quickly and the tackler is sometimes not the only person contributing to it being a rotating tackle. What is the tackler to do?

Every situation is different, but if a player slows instead of slinging, if he releases or doesn’t pin a defensive arm, all things being equal he may be demonstrating a reasonable attempt to avoid or minimise harm to his fellow player.

In our view, that slowing of momentum, that split second moment of care, contributed to Neale not being slung into the ground and being exposed to injury. The charge is dismissed.
