Rookie Review – Round 17 2022

Written by Alza on July 12 2022

For the coaches with trades and looking for a rookie it looks like Burgoyne is the pick of the crop with his DPP crucial at this time of the year. Oea is the best of the forwards on the bubble this week but I would suggest to wait a week for Carmichael, I wouldn’t go early as he may be a short term injury replacement.

Players on the bubble are shown with an asterisk.

The Good: McCartin had his best score of the year thanks to 22 touches with 7 contested and 9 intercept possessions all at 86%. He also took a game high 14 marks with 4 of those contested. Daicos has had a great month and is now priced at over $500,000. He had 21 touches at 90%, he had 441 metres gained, laid 3 tackles and took 4 marks but was boosted by a goal in the last quarter to help get the Pies over the line.

The Bad: Brown struggled as did a few others in this game. After a great 1st game of the year he only had the 4 kicks at 50% and didn’t kick a goal.

The Bad: Tunstill was brought in by just under 7% of coaches and struggled to impact. He did have 11 touches but used it fairly poorly at 46% and only took the 1 mark, should bounce back if he holds his spot. Soligo had 13 touches at 54% with 3 clangers to hurt his score and give himself a price decline.

RUCKS

No rookie rucks featured again this week but Samson Ryan may play this week for the Tigers with their injury issues.

The Good: Durdin has returned to form with 2 goals from 10 touches. He didn’t use it that well with 60% efficiency but didn’t have any clangers. He laid 5 tackles and had 6 score involvements. West had a decent game in their big loss. He had 11 touches at 82% but only 2 were kicks but was boosted from 8 contested possessions and laying 8 tackles.

The Bad: Rosas injured himself and was subbed out unfortunately but not before committing 5 clangers, he had 4 touches but none were effective. McComb was the sub but he did manage 49% game time for his low score. He had 9 touches at 56% with 3 clangers to hurt his score. Windhager had his first quiet game with only 7 touches and 2 tackles. Spicer probably isn’t the player to bring in this week after only 6 touches and 2 tackles with only 1 effective possession to give him 17% efficiency. Bedendo played a full game but he too managed 9 touches at a very poor 33% efficiency. He did lay 4 tackles but also committed 6 clangers from a low 56% TOG.

Rookie of the Year Award:
3 – Patrick McCartin

  1. I am wanting to trade Hinge for cash gen but who ever I bring in will be my cover for the remainder of the yr.
My question. Is James Blanck safe with Sam Frost to return soon?

    1. Safe to say that nobody you bring in as a downgrade is going to be reliable cover at this point. Roll the dice!

  2. I think he seems to have decent JS but hard to gauge as they are happy to chop and change their line up, Grainger-Barras was in the team also and seems to be the first one out.
