  1. Hi guys ,,

  2. What do we think about Lohman’s scoring/CG/JS potential?
He did look good when given the TOG and Alza seemed relatively bullish on him in the Rookie Review.
What makes me twitchy is that Reid and Cadman still have a little more juice in them so any trade I made for Lohman would be pretty darn sideways.

    1. Gulp

He showed in the preseason he has the ability when he played more up the field
I’m going Clark to him as he has more potential to score higher
It’s a risk as he’s been sub so many times

      Good luck

  3. My forward line is:

J.Macrae, Powell, Jordan, H.Reid, D.Wilson & Windsor. I have Lazzaro and Sexton sitting on my bench doing nothing.

I have $1900 in the bank. Any thoughts on what I can do to improve the forwards?

    1. Macrae to Flanders must do this week.

You could sideways one of your bench rookies to Comben and Ramsden but i would wait a week given best 18.

    2. Hammertime

I’m a fellow MaCrae owner but i’m stupidly holding
He’s going to bleed cash $$$$ but until Bevo gives him a go you and i”ll continue to suffer
MaCrae to Flanders is the most logical choice

  4. Currently fielding five bye players this round with no cash in the bank.
Is it worth taking a punt and going Jordan>Lohman to fund Grundy>English?
This reduces my bye players to three and allows me to look at the likes of Clohesy/Comben/Ramsden before pulling the trigger on Howes and Windsor before their bye next week.

    TU: Worth a punt
    TD: Hold off

  8. Really keen to hear any Hawks supporters thoughts on Meek?

Will he stay the number 1 and only ruck?

    3

    1. To be honest, I don’t think he will. I can see him being there for another 3-4 weeks, but once he has one or two poor games (which is inevitable), Reeves will find his way back in to the side.

  10. Bit light on in the D50
Running Sheezel, Daicos, McGrath, D’Ambrosio, Clohesy, Draper (Hore, Coffield)
    $176K in the Bank

    TU: Shift out Hore/Coffield
TD: Hold out for DPP and swing Roberts/McKercher/Holmes Down Back.

    1. Wait until next week.

Clohesy and Graham are both on track to have DPP (D/M). You can bring them in for Hore/Coffield and with the added flexibility organise your backline with McKercher &/or Roberts.

  11. Concern for Jackson if shrek is named?
BE of 150, could start to lose us money if we don’t cash in this week.

Tu: Jackson > Flanders & bank the 50k
    TD: Hold off

    6

    26
  12. Howes > Clohesy
    Grundy > English
    Jackson > Nic Martin/Flanders

Leaves me money in the bank next week to grab another premo as well as 2 rookies (graham & comben), providing they go well.

Yes people are going to question trading out Jackson, however we can cash in right now at basically 600k. If shrek is named, historically Jackson only averages in the mid 80s, so I think it may becomes an awkward situation if we don’t move him on this week and his scores and price start to decline massively due to Darcy coming in.

    Tu or TD

    3

    11
    1. Jackson has increased his average approx 13 points each year and averaged 98 last year. He is a young player so going on historical averages doesn’t quite fit.

I feel like if you picked him at the start, he was there to be a keeper, it might be a bit bumpy but he probably still does 105 average as a forward/ruck for the year and more if Darcy rests or gets another injury.

There is also the flexibility benefit if you are dealing with a 1-2 week ruck injury/byes his DPP brings. It could easily be a 60 point benefit one week which is worth about 5 ppg.

      12

      0
      1. I believe he only averaged 87 last season with Shrek in the side. So that 98 is inflated from the back end of the season where Darcy was out injured. I don’t like the idea of ‘banking’ as such on another Darcy injury. Feel as though cashing in on him at 600k could be the right move, especially if it’s to someone such as Nic Martin who is going to be a top 6-8 defender. This move also banks 70k. If I am proven wrong, I am happy to look at Jackson again later in the season at a much price, however he is bound to have some well below par scores if he and Darcy are in the side together.

Note, he also did get some midfield minutes at stages last season which would have also inflated Jackson’s points. I remember games against Melbourne & Collingwood he was playing a decent amount around the ball whilst Darcy was doing the majority of the ruck work.
I can’t see this being the case with Fyfe & Young moving into the midfield basically full time.

I guess it comes down to whether or not I feel from here on in he will be a top 6-8 forward. The answer simply depends on Darcy’s fitness and availability. If Shrek is named this week I guess we have a decision to make. Cheers!

        5

        1
        1. We all have our opinions and firstly I do not have Jackson. But for those who started him at $547k surely did so with him being a keeper ? Shrek may reduce his scoring but he is a Gun and as Peter said his average should increase as he gets better each year. I am tipping his 120 average exceeds most preseason expectations and his natural progression should make him better than the 87 average you expect from here on. Doesn’t cost you anything if you keep him just my 2 cents worth. This week was always going to happen, not sure who is better up forward and other lines have countless Gun options unlike the Forward line, keep him I say !

          10

          0
          1. I agree with you nick that his points scoring may drop however I am a believer that you should upgrade your rookies first and do these luxury trades later. I think we all have quite a few rookies that have made enough money to upgrade.

            5

            0
    1. You gotta say what rookie bro, makes a big difference in my voting anyways. If it was Clohesy, I’d happily vote TD.

      7

    1. My two-cents…

There’s only 3 Rucks that will potentially be top-3 in the line. Gawn and English. To a lesser extent maybe Marshall.

Many potential defenders in top-6 contention at this point in the year. I’d sit on Young and bring in English if you’re able to do it.

      7

      0
      1. Actually, this week bringing English in would net you more points.

Best-18 round which Grundy is not playing, so he’s a zero. English is averaging 124.5. That’s an improvement of 124.5 points on ground.

Let’s use Howes average of 59 points; and, Young is averaging 95.8. That’s an improvement of 36.8 points on the field.

However, as this is a Best-18 round other factors need to be thought through… such as:

        – The reason that Young was scoring poorly earlier in the year is that he was playing accountable on the best midfielder from the other team. Freo playing Port Adelaide, in addition to the Power being a fairly restrictive midfield, there is every chance that he does a job on Rozee or Butters. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a sub-80 score this weekend.

        – The Doggies playing Essendon, English is every chance to go 125-plus (last 3 versus the Bombers… 134, 123, 204).

Which means, you may have brought in Young to cover for a playing Howes and netted 20-points or less and a rookie may have that score covered with it being a Best-18 round. When you could have brought in a top player in the Ruck line for the season and gotten a potential C/VC score.

        Thought for food.
        Good luck.

        1. All valid points Magic
You have to take in account that Howes has a BE of 56 and doesn’t look like making money and more potential to lose it.

Young’s last two games have been 132 and 119 and BE of 45.
He scored 113 against Port last year in round 22 as a mid.

English is now facing Goldstein where Essendon haven’t had a dominant ruck the last few seasons, that can sway his score from previous performances. English is also attending a lower percentage of ruck contests due to Darcy in the team.

          More food for thought

          8

          0
          1. Yep, totally valid Natopotato

If a coach is concerned with Howes losing cash, there are downgrade options this/next week to take advantage of… personally I am.

English is one of the rare rucks that’s good both in the ruck and around the ground. Darcy has been in the side giving a chop for the past 3x weeks and has averaged 126.3 pts

In the context of this transaction, I’m less convinced on Young than I am on English. Both for the week and the year. Again, it’s my opinion and I could totally be wrong (it wouldn’t be the first time!)

At any rate, I wish all coaches luck 🙂

        2. I’m as big a Tingles fan as there is, started him, but not at all a fan of people bring him in for Grundy this week.

          Few reasons.

          1) Price. 690k. You really don’t want to pay 700k for anyone – least not at this stage when cash is just coming through. All well and good to see Roberts, Kerch and Mass in the 300s but it’s early days. You need to fund a full premo side. Were it not for the Suns boys there’d literally be NO ONE to downgrade to.

          2) Ceiling. With Darcy taking a touch under a third of CBAs, it’s capped his ceiling. Solo against West Coast and he would’ve gone 160+. So pretty much just doing 120-130s now, which is tremendous but nothing explosive.

          3) Utility. The actual use of the 200k to get Grundy to him at this stage, I think, is misplaced. That’s an upgrade, which has to happen to keep pace. Sure you improve Grundy to Tingles and gain 25 PPG – meanwhile everyone else is taking a 60s rookie to 120s player.

I’m shocked people are balling out for Tingles. I think the move is so clearly Grundy to RoMo NEXT WEEK. You’ll only need 100k, which you can set aside this week, or even grab by freshening up a dead 180-200k type like Sexton or whatever to Graham on the bubble. Could also go Meek, but boxes you into more trades.

What I wouldn’t be doing is paying 700k at this stage of season and forgoing an upgrade for a player with a capped ceiling.

RoMo at 600k so clearly the solve.

          7

          1
          1. I’m a fan of Marshall as well, GD

I think he’s clearly the third choice this season behind Gawn and English by about 10 pts per game. Over the course of the year from this point, that’s just shy 200 pts. I’m willing to pay up $90k over Marshall this week to get English. I feel it’s a sound investment, especially if I’m cutting Howes to do it.

The report that Lyon mentioned playing Tom Campbell to give Marshall a rest during games post Gather Round. Said the same last year and didn’t eventuate, but worth monitoring. That’s giving me concern on Marshall’s ceiling.

I wouldn’t cull one of my still fattening cows to make the trade. The Roberts, McKercher, Reid, Sanders, Sharp etc still need time to mature. But, if you have $100k in the bank, are downgrading Howe to Clohesy for $12o.9k, and have Grundy sitting there this week not playing… I’d advocate for taking that “dead” $507.7k this week and turning it into English. You get the potential #1 or #2 ruck in the game for the remainder of the season, and he’s a fairly substantial pod at 12% ownership.

Plus, and I haven’t mentioned this previously, I’m not confident in what I’m seeing out of Grundy. I think he’s washed. And, he’s got a tough run coming up. He’s got a BE of 85 in his next game against Witts and I’m not confident he get’s there. Could definitely see him losing cash to his bye.

I would rather take that unused money this round and turn it into English.

            But, that’s me.

    1. JHF had a 91% /9% MID/FWD split on the weekend.

He is on FWD 30% MID 70% so would require a significant forward roll over the next two weeks to reach the 35% cut off point.

If Wines is back this may take some of his mid time?

Personally I can not see that happening after JHF’s performance last week.

Well worth watching if something unexpected happens but at the moment his DPP looks precarious.

  15. Hi all , Question…
With Rozee, Butters, Drew and Wines..
Is there a spot for JHF in the midfield ????
TU Yes they regard him highly and will use him
TD No he will only be in there as a back up…
Interested in your vote or thoughts..
I saw the Phantom really rates him in the paper..
    Thanks

    1. Interesting that while when Rozee and Butters were drafted they were used extensively as half-forwards for a season or so, JHF was thrown straight into the midfield mix, this shows how highly they regard him. He will definitely breakout and be a lock at some point, but there is definitely a lot of mouths to feed in the Port midfield. Unless he gets forward eligibility, which may also mean more time resting up forward and less points, I think that there are other discounted midfielders out there who represent less risk and decent value.

  17. Alright week but thankfully my trades last (Fisher & Sexton > S.Darcy & Dempsey) has set me up for upgrades this week!

DEF: Sheezel, Houston, DAICOS, NWM, D’Ambrossio, Howes (Reid, Coffield)
MID: Bont, Butters, Serong, LDU, Dawson, ROBERTS, McKercher, Sanders (Sharp, Clark, Mannagh)
    RUC: Gawn, GRUNDY (Livingstone)
    FWDS: T.Powell, J.JORDON, Reid, Dempsey, S.Darcy, Wilson (Windsor, T.Berry)

    CAPS = BYE
    $223,800 ITB, 34 trades left, 4 boosts.

Plan on going J.Jordon & Howes to Flanders & Clohesy.
I am debating on whether to use a boost but don’t know where to begin (E.g. Coffield/Reid, etc) so I am open to any feedback or advice!

  18. Who to Trade Out This Week?
TU: Jhye Clark (BE 11, scored 28 pts last week)

Will trade the other Next Week

Should i use a boost to trade Grundy to English?

  20. Can you go Grundy to gawn this week?

Gawns BE is only 75 and may genuinely go 180 v lions this weekend. I don’t even care he has the bye next week. It’s best 18.

    R1 is ROMO .

  23. Is it too late to get Darcy? I had a few pressing issues last week that didn’t allow me to grab him. I was going to go:

Clark and Pink/Reid (def) —> Darcy and Clohesy

Otherwise I’m not sure where to target this week with my side below. I think Martin is a solid choice but don’t think I can get him in unless I sacrifice someone who is doing ok.

D: Ryan, Sheezel, Daicos, Massimo, Williams, Howes (Pink, Reid)
M: Bont, Green, Butters, Serong, Miller, McKercher, Roberts, Sanders (Sharp, Carroll, Clark)
    R: Jackson, Grundy (Livingstone)

    1. what does your forward line (or side even) look like DC ?

Forward options are thin I know but using a boost on Green to fatten the mids with good scoring rookies on the bench at a cost of a painfully thin forward line is the conundrum I am tipping ? Powell at $330k a few weeks ago a no brainer but at $410k I am not so sure, if he is a keeper then fine but as (another) stepping stone I would potential pass, but depends on your line up I think

      2

TD Howes, Gruny, Sexton to Closey, Gawn, Comden

I’m inclined to go TU because my FWD is very light with Jackson, Flanders, Powell, H Reid, Darcy and Wilson on field, Sexton and Lazzaro on the bench.

    1. Next two weeks are B18, so wouldn’t be too concerned with how weak/dicey your FWD line looks. Just be ready to have it field strong by the time we’re out of B18.

Still TU though. Better move OA.

  31. TU – Grundy to English, no money for upgrade next week
TD – Grundy to Marshall, money for Massimo to Luke Ryan next

        1. Tingles is good for 125-130 season long but probably just 120s at the moment because Darcy is there eating some of the ruck economy. Caps his ceiling.

RoMo 114.3 last year, going at that rn despite being criminally underscored v Dons. So on trajectory he pushes 115+. Maybe 117-118 all up.

So 8-10 points in Tingles favour. But honestly? I started Tingles and I’d be taking RoMo and the 100k in a heartbeat. You can get away with it and Tingles has no upside atm.

Guarantee you the extra 100k is huge and the points difference is negligible for now.

RoMo, Tingles and Gawn all acceptable finishing rucks.

          6

          2
    1. Graham instead of Comben, if you’ve got the DPP.

230k too much to find out with Comben. Definitely want him on the bubble.

  34. Grundy, Jordon, D’Ambrosio – > Marshall, Nic Martin, Clohesy

Gives me 2 keepers and next week I would be looking at a double downgrade of 2 underperforming/dead rookies to bring in Will Graham and Comben – providing they score reasonably.

After R6 DPP additions it’s off to the races with upgrades!

T/U Do it , good trades

  36. Trade 1 done = Bowes to Clohesy

TU : 2nd trade of Grundy to Marshall, leaves me $50K ITB, 21 players & 6 onfield rookies this week
TD : Keep Grundy until I can upgrade to English when cheaper, Jackson becomes R2 this week via DPP, leaves me $150K ITB, 21 players and 7 onfield rookies (Cadman in FWD is onfield instead of option 1 where he’s benched).

  37. Tossing up between getting nick Martin now or Flanders or even a gun mid Steele or Merrett thoughts appreciated

    1. I would pass on Merrett, paying top $ and history says he will get tagged and have a bad game then a price drop.

The other 3 all represent value, so it depends where you get the best bang for your buck.

I have both Flanders and Steele and will be trading in Martin this week with the plan to move him to defence after R6.

  38. firstly apologies for posting my side again which I did earlier in the week, really only playing cash league too
Naicos, Sheezel, J Clark, D’Ambrosio, Williams, Howes (Coffield, Reid)
Bontempelli, Butters, Serong, Dawson, Martin, McKercher, Sanders, Sharp (Roberts, Wilson, Clark)
    Gawn, Grundy, (Livingstone)
Heeney, Flanders, T Powell, Fyfe, Dempsey, Reid, (Darcy, Cadman)
    $94000 ITB

Earlier in the week I seriously toyed with Clark (Geel) to Clohesy (via Naicos) & Cadman to Meek (via Livingstone), which gives me 22 for the next two weeks in a very strong cash league and some cash generation for Meek too.

Then JHF caught my attention (like many). No he is not a must have by any stretch, but for his price he surely averages 105+ for the rest of the year which at the very worst becomes a luxury upgrade once your team is completed ? He is certainly awesome value but it would cost me Clark (Geelong) and McKercher in particular to get him ! I have plenty of DDP options coming with Martin, Roberts, Graham (trade in next week probably) and Clohesy with Mid status presuming he becomes DPP too. I know McKercher will surge again at some point too but they all have to go at some point.

Now I am seriously considering Coffield to Clohesy and Grundy to Marshall and keeping all rookies mentioned above.

which way would you go please folks based on the above ? I think Marshall will get the nod but I still see Grundy as a luxury upgrade and can live with his average should it continue given I am happy with the majority of my side !

  39. Jackson to Rowell/Steele ?

TU: yes, trade Jackson at max value
TD: no, he will be fine – save the trade

  40. OUT: Grundy, Jordan, Howes
    IN: Gawn, Martin, Clohesy

Cant afford both Gawn and Martin without trading Howes.

  41. Making an upgrade this week from Jordan up to one of Wanganeen-Milera/Martin (via substitutions). Which one is more likely to be a top 6 defender at season end?
    > TU – Martin
    > TD – Wanganeen Milera

  42. Is Gawn a must get this week? 215 points last time against Bris and if he scores big will go to 700k+ before his bye

  43. OUT: Grundy , SBerry , Howes
IN: Gawn , Graham , Clohesy

Going early gives me a nice Bank for next week upgrades…

  44. Howes > Chlosey
    D’ambrosio > Graham
    Caroll > Nic Martin

Obviously I’d rather hold both Mass and Caroll with low breakevens, but if it gets me Martin against the dogs at Marvel, with a 35 b/e himself, it could be the same amount of cash as waiting…

Walsh back might affect caroll as well.

  45. TU:
OUT: Grundy , SBerry , Howes
IN: Gawn , Graham , Clohesy
    200k in bank

    TD:
    OUT: Fisher , D’ambrosio , Grundy
IN: Martin , Gawn , Clohesy
    30k in bank

I did trade out nic Martin 2 weeks ago so TD feels wrong but so does trading in 2 GC rookies early in TU.

    1. I really like the idea of Grundy to Meek, and then Meek to Gawn/English (depending who you need) in a couple of weeks when Meek has made some cash.

  46. DEF – Stewart, Sheezel, Daicos, D’Ambrossio, Williams, Uwland (Howes, Pink)
MID – Bont, Merrett, Green, Miller, Holmes, McKercher, Sanders, Sharp (Roberts, Carroll, Clark)
    RUC – Gawn, Grundy (Livingstone)
FWD – Jackson, Flanders, Powell, Fyfe, Reid, Darcy (Campbell, Wilson)

    $94k ITB, 34 trades remaining

Already doing Howes > Clohesy, that’s a lock. A bit too late to get Brown, I won’t get much cash out of him and I need to start upgrading the likes of McKercher in the next round or two.

Not sure what other trades I should do. Players like Campbell, Wilson, and Clark aren’t far from peaking, but I feel downgrading one of them this week would be too premature

TU: The Howes>Clohesy trade should be enough
TD: Should make an additional ideal trade (Please respond with what trades you think I should be considering)

  47. Trading out Howes, Jordan and Grundy this week or next week
TU get in Clohesy, Steel and get English next week. (4 trades in total)
TD get in Clohesy, Martin and Marshall (3 trades this week with a boost)

Thanks heaps people, been thinking about this for too long and need someone else to decide 😉

  48. Hi everyone – advice please

T/U use boost and cash this week to go McKercher to JHF or

T/D save cash and boost this week and go McKercher to Daicos next week ?

  49. Is it worth burning a boost (still have 5) to bring in Meek for Grundy for massive cash gen and trade Windsor for a premium next week?

    Thoughts?

  50. Hi all,
I’m a bit to the trade table this week.
Thoughts on Charlie Comben? I’m pondering trading him in for Jordan.
