Back To The Futures – Guineas Day

Written by Schwarzwalder on October 7 2020

G’day Coaches!  Hope you all performed well in the first Round of Racing SuperCoach.  Looks like we have froffershanners on board for the remainder of the Spring Carnival.  He’ll be providing valuable insight into SuperCoach before each Raceday is ready to go.  I was hoping to take a different path with my analysis………

If you’re like myself, then you enjoy checking the early all-in markets for the upcoming Saturday race meetings.  Over the Spring Carnival, I’ll be trying to identify those horses that are over (or even under) the odds in early markets (and stand a chance of winning, of course).

For starters this week we have the massive card at Caulfield for Guineas Day.  Here are a few nags to look out for………

Instant Celebrity – Was a strong favorite for the 1000 Guineas at $2.50 for most of the early period in betting.  Hungry Heart has been a last minute nomination for the race and has caused havoc with the early markets.  With the consensus that the Sydney 3yo form is stronger than Melbourne, Hungry Heart has been made fave at around $3.

That has pushed Instant Celebrity out to $4 and you might even get more on the day.  She demolished her (Melb) rivals in the Prelude, rounding them all up on the turn before easing down for an easy win.  I’ll be sticking with her……Just be patient with the price…….

Junipal – Has rated through the roof at his last two starts where he gapped his rivals.  Is absolutely airborne this preparation and it’s hard to see anything getting past him in this form.  Is currently $5 favorite for the Toorak Handicap and the race looks like his to lose.  You might still get a better price on the day, however I’d be keeping a close eye on his market moves……..

LONG – TERM FUTURES

Verry Eleegant – I believe she is the only local horse that can stop the Internationals in the Caulfield Cup.  She can do a lot wrong in her races but she is all talent and raw ability.  The forecast rain for the near future only improves her chances of winning the Caulfield Cup, for which she is now $8 equal favorite.  That price will halve if the heavens open up……..

Enthaar – I made mention of this little freak in my SuperCoach write-up last week.  As I stated there, the word going around is that the Eustace/Maher camp have never seen one like her.  She thrashed her opponents in the Gimcrack Stakes…….Eased down to win the race by a couple of lengths after travelling three deep on the speed for the entire trip.

Now I know it’s extremely early (and plenty can still happen), but she is already $9 fave for the Golden Slipper next year.  If she continues in the same vein till then, she’ll start at even money on the day.  If you have the patience for it, I’d suggest tacking it onto the end of a couple futures multis……..

Good luck at Caulfield this week, Coaches!
