Rate My Team XII

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 14 2017

The JLT Series is now behind us and as often happens, plans change according to recent performances.  Are the Rucks going to drop off this year?  Where are all the good rookies?  Will we have to take a chance on some more mid-pricers?  How’s your team looking right now?  Let the SCT Coaches have a gander………

    1. Looks like a great team Case.

I do wonder that you might have too much risk with Beams, JOM and Sandi. Throw in Roughy and Steele and it gets a bit dodgy because things can get dicey pretty quickly.

    2. Pendles Hanners and Rockliff have all done very little in preseason.

All are absolute stars but I’m treating them us upgrade targets due to questionable preseasons.

They also come at substantial risk of price falls.

Treloar or Jelwood at 40k cheaper look better to me than Pendles at this time, and either of them is a straight swap for the others.

    1. Nice team Pilchos, but for mine you’re punting on too many guys to have a breakout year. I count 3 in the backs and 2 in the forwards + a lot of risk in the middle.

I’d cull Marchbank and improve one of your others.

Only considering bringing in Hrovat over a Nankervis and a few rookie swaps but pretty locked in now!

    1. Looks good Gibbo. Black is unlikely to get a game as he missed the last JLT against the bombers.

Don’t worry about the thumbs down, I think the is a serial dummy on here 😀

      1. Thanks HH, I’ve tried to go pure g’n’r style, with the exception of 3 returning from injury former premos. Well 2 and JOM.

3 premos in the backline and 3.5 in the forwards.

  6. Looks a solid line-up. While I think Lynch is a great POD, I’m just a little cautious about taking premiums from Suns/Power due to that Rd9 Bye. Missing one or two premiums in that week could cost you a League win or even a strong overall position. After Rd9, fire away!

    7

    1
    1. Thanks Schwarz, it’s a tough one but will make a nice POD if I can work it out. I’m expecting his start to the season to be pretty solid and possibly better than the finish if the Suns are not much of a chance to make the finals.

    1. Not that I know much about anything….but I count 12 ‘keepers’ (3 def, 5 mid, 0.5 ruck, 3.5 fwd) I’m assuming sandi gets injured and steele not certain….
So, does this put pressure on trades?
With $230k in bank, maybe upgrade a mid to a keeper to reduce pressure?

    1. I’m really hoping Missy is short for Miscellaneous! Otherwise, who is your preferred slapper? (Slapper, person who slaps another person for silly or detrimental decisions)

A few too many speculative picks for mine, but then I was badly burned last year and never recovered. Out of Tuohy, Mills, Steele and Nankervis, who do you think will score the highest and what average are you expecting?

      0

      4
      1. I’m expecting Nankervis to get 90’s which is probably good enough to be f6/f7 by end of year with ruck cover.

Mills sat out the entire second half the game this weekend which is why after 2 tons on the trot he only scored 38. Probably not going to be a top 10 defender though so at this point he’s one of the most prone to the chop.

Tuohy i expect to get to mid 90’s. He is the real deal.

Steele was starved of opportunity at GWS, and is rocking what a 110+ average from 3 in the preseason. 28 possies on the weekend against a near full strength Sydney outfit. Should be clear best 22 by now at St Kilda.

        3

        1
        1. I’ve gone Tuohy as well. I’m expecting around 95 average. His numbers are up at cats so far, Never misses games and I believe will push up the ground a bit more. More long kicks inside 50

          2

          1
      2. Missy is another one i question because I don’t doubt his ability – he only played half of this last round as a precaution and tonned up in the other two matches.

More I doubt how competitive North will be.

        1

        0
    2. I like a the team. Close to mine. It could be the year to get a few mid range players due to lack of rookie options. It’s just a question of how many risky picks is too many. At least you’re prepared if next week barely any rookies are named

      1

      1
      1. Missy is Shaun Higgins.

Missy both due to the surname and how many games he missed early in his career.

Has been pretty reliable since 2015 though.

Dangerfield, Pendlebury, JPK, Treloar, Fyfe, Beams, O’meara, Powell-Pepper (Barrett, Wigg, Hibberd)

    Gawn, Sandilands (Strnadica)

Dahlhaus, Macrea, Roughead, Nanverkis, Tarranto, Pickett (Houston, Eddy)

    Thoughts?

Currently unsure on Gawn all deppends on Spencer being named round 1, tad concerned with 4 pies in my team also

    2

    1
    1. With your concerns regarding Gawn and too many Collingwood players an option could be to trade Gawn for Goldstein freeing up approximately 60,000 which can be used to bring in H Shaw for T Adams.

      4

      3
      1. Goldy played with 2 other rucks and scored poorly. Either Preuss or Daw will most likely line up with him for round 1.

There seems significant upside potential in dodging “premium” rucks until the scoring becomes clear, because pretty much all the rucks besides Nankervis have scored poorly in JLT.

Of course, most teams won’t be running 3 rucks in the regular season either.

If you are going to dodge the big guns, then Nankilands or even Sandi/Witts and Nank on the forward line looks good. Reasonable scoring potential, solid cash growth and backup built in.

If Spencer gets named round 1 that’s my plan and will give me 400k to bring in two more certified premos and maybe a rookie upgrade to marchbank.

        2

        3
  12. New line-up again, rip it apart:

    DEF: H. Shaw, R. Laird, C. Hampton, A. Otten, E-Vickers-Willis, N. Newman (M. Hibberd, T. Stewart)

    MID: P. Dangerfield, S. Pendlebury, J.P. Kennedy, J. Selwood, A. Treloar, N. Fyfe, D. Beams, S. Powell-Pepper (J. Barret, H. Wigg, J. Atley)

    RUCK: M. Gawn, A. Sandilands (L. Strnadica)

    FWD: N. Riewoldt, L. Dahlhaus, J. Roughead, T. Nankervis, T. Taranto, J. Pickett (D. Houston, B. Eddy)

If Gawn is named for round 1 with another ruck, then I’ll downgrade him to Witts and get another premo in the backline.

As always, any and all criticism/feedback is more than welcome 🙂

    1. Looks good on paper mate. However 5 of your 8 def are 50/50 to play at best. The 7 deep midfield looks great, but it’s highly likely it’s not going to be viable. If you like this team keep it around, but work on a proviso for when the rookies don’t show up.

      3

  13. Here goes:

DEF: Shaw, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Vickers, Stewart (Newman, Guthrie)
MID: Danger, Pendles, JPK, Selwood, Treloar, Fyfe, Mitchell, SPP (Barrett, Wigg, Hibberd)
    RUC: Grundy, Sandi (Strnadica)
FWD: Roo, Dahl, Roughy, Nankervis, Pickett, Parfitt (Cameron, Eddy)

    $2.2k up my sleeve.

Light on down back, hoping plenty of the rookies get named.
Super strong in the mids, set and forget with the exception of the last spot (Hanners, Priddis, Rocky, Ablett – whoever presents at the right time).
Sandi to be swapped for a resurgent Gawn or Goldy later on if they come good.
Roll the dice up forward and see what shows up.

    7 genuine rookie upgrades required.
2-3 midprice swaps (Sandi, Nankervis, Roughy) depending on form.

Most upgrades being forward and back should mean I can get away with 2 trades per upgrade (one down, one up). Assume similar for the midprice swaps if additional funds are needed. 20 planned trades, 10 up my sleeve for injuries and adjustments.

    1. Backline needs more Hampton and less McGrath – I reckon that’s your Essendon bias coming through 😉 McGrath hasn’t done jack during the JLT games, so his job security and scoring potential are both too suspect to justify the price. Hampton looks to be getting a good run in the Adelaide midfield, and is $40k cheaper.

Dislike the Watson pick, but that’s personal opinion. If you reckon he can go 105-110 for the year then back yourself in.

Setterfield is an interesting one. He’ll be a good player, but not sure he sees much gametime this year. Maybe Coniglio going down opens up an opportunity, but I reckon Taranto is ahead at the moment.

Freeman yet to be sighted, he’ll be eased in this year and will probably be a downgrade option later rather than a round 1 starter.

Risky forward line. Besides Ryder, I like all the picks on their own merits, but it’s a lot to load up on one line. Paddy looks like a good option if he’s the sole ruck, but if Port take a second tall in then I think you’ll have to cut him loose. Also, him and Nankervis is maybe a bit overkill? Perhaps the money saved on McGrath, along with your cash stash, could allow you to upgrade Ryder to Dahlhaus and keep a bit of money aside?

      7

      1. Thanx for the feedback BB
Your probably right about my McGrath pick a bit of Essendon bias. To be perfectly honest I’m way behind compared to previous years I reckon I’ve watched about 5 JLT so havnt done much research.

        1

    2. Marchbank at d3, and your d4 and d5 are probably not playing rnd 1.

Up front Ryder played 2 turkey games before this week and only scored ok against Hawthorn’s joke ruck stocks. Bowes will be lucky to play r1.

Watson, Swallow have been ok at best.
Setterfield, Freeman, Gore unlikely to play R1.

      Needs a full rethink.

  17. How is Jake Lloyd from Sydney not getting a look in from any teams? 95 and 113 in his last two games against formidable opponents in GWS and St Kilda. Serious POD..

Maybe I should have kept that to myself!

    1. Jake lloyd has been on the cusp for a couple of years.

      And stayed there.

    1. Elliot and Fiorini are very awkwardly price.

I’d be downgrading them to free up cash to upgrade Murphy, 34yo coming of an ACL isn’t a risk I’d be willing to take and Miller to ensure you are only taking 1 breakout risk in the Fwd line.

Keep an eye on team announcements as some of those rookies won’t be lining up Rd1.

    1. Powell-Pepper is one of our better rookies so will be wasted on the bench, as you mentioned above, you could cut Swallow to free up some funds.

I’d probably put it into defence and only take 1 risk of the breakout candidates and upgrading the other.

Nice overall team and structure although I wouldn’t be counting on Cameron getting enough early games to be considered good cover if Sandilands is injured.

    1. Maybe ditch Colyer to Taranto. Don’t have Colyers price off the top of my head would that leave you money to go Swallow to Clayton Oliver?

      1

      0
    2. Looks solid steph.

      Backs. Near perfect
Mids. Look good on paper but a few have underwhelmed me, including Heppell and Swallow. I honestly prefer Hall to Heppell and that would probably leave you plenty of money to go to Oliver.

Colyer seems a bit of a nothing pick to me.

Rest looks good, including the rookies.

      1

      0
    3. Like your backline.

Like your M1-M4. I personally like the look of Dayne Beams, so I’d go

      Heppell to Beams $179,000

Swallow to Rookie (M. Hibberd from NM, for example) $335, 000

Colyer to Taranto (Not that you’ll necessarily take him, but as an expensive rookie he gives you more flexibility to change him.) $ 457, 000

Roughead to Nankervis (Basically a straight swap; I reckon Nankervis’s upside outmatches Rougheads, but Roughead has the runs on the board. Nank is also R/F which is quite handy with the Sandiwitts ruck line.)

      O’ Meara to Pendlebury ($130, 000) remaining.

      —-

Now you’ll have plenty of room to move around with 2 200k + rookies in the forward line, along with $130k in the bank. You could also get another $40k by picking up a Treloar/Selwood over Pendles, but I reckon Pendles should be the first name on any teamsheet.

You might even be able to squeeze another premium in if enough lower price rookies are named.

Your team is quite good as it is; no one stands out to me as an awful pick (with the exception of Colyer.

  25. latest effort:

DEF: Shaw, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Vicker-Willis, Ryan (Hewitt, Guthrie)
MED: Dangerfield, Pendlebury, Kennedy, Selwood, Priddis, Fyfe, Beams, O’Meara
    (Pepper-P, Wigg, Cousins)
    RUCK: Sandilands, Witts (strnadica)
FOR: N.Riewoldt, Dahlhaus, Roughead, Steele, Taranto, Eddy (Parfitt,Smith)
    $231.000

might have bitten of more than I can chew here, but still tinkering,
DEF: is light on, but apart from the 4-5 premium defenders, I think the mid pricers all fall away, and don’t trust any off them, so gone 2 premo atm with marchbank to have a good year, and rookies to fill the rest.
MID: I’ve loaded up here with 7 premo’s and JOM to keep the points coming in,
with the cash still left, I can always dump JOM and put SPP on the field and maybe stiffen up my defence, but my gut feeling ( WE all know how that usually works out) is JOM will have a great year, and I’m a Hawks man so maybe a bit of a hope/desperation
Rucks: Yes I Know feel free to rip me a new one
FOR: first 3 I’m happy with, Steele another gut feeling, Taranto looked the goods, and with a few Giants out should get some early games in.

    1. Nice team.

Surely with that much cash left you can find someone else for R2

      I would look at Nankervis.

He is my forward line. If he goes well I will swing him into the ruck when Sandi gets injured.

      Sandi will get Injured.

Gone light in the forwards to beef up the mids. Havent paid much attention to preseason as recent seasons however looking to fine tune over the next few weeks.

Would love to hear some thoughts.

    1. I’ve been struggling with the Laird, Hampton, Otten combo. Individually I would choose each but I worry about three in the same position from the same team. But they all played all 3 JLT games and did well so maybe that doesn’t matter. So I guess I’ve been no help. Sorry. But I like Dylan in your midfield, especially with Coniglio down.

    2. I don’t mind your shiel pick either I had him all season from start to finish last year and was ultra consistent but the one thing that hurts is he is very handball happy. He gets a lot of first possession off the tap so is constantly handballing. His ceiling in terms of scoring is quite low. Basically last year I knew every week he would score between 90-110 but very rarely hits more than 110. But you do need mids that can have that consistency. Good luck mate

    1. If there wasn’t such a forwards shortage I’d probably look to minimise the match ban risk with Greene – that after the siren aggression in the syd/gws jlt game was not promising. Hopefully it was just readjusting to the pressure of games and he’ll be slightly less of a dick this year. And score more goals. But that’s my delusional optimism showing through.

    2. Reconsider Marchbank I’m far from sold on him. Lock down defender that during low intensity JLT probably racked up few more points than would be the norm when it comes to the real stuff and he is on the best forward each week. Also Simpson and Docherty will be the ones used coming out of there. Greene’s ability to play every game worries me with injury and suspension always around the corner I don’t want that anxiety in Supercoach this season. I’d upgrade him to Roo or Kennedy (WC) guaranteed to be a top 4-5 forward. Don’t mind Roughie and Steele as picks but I’d consider only taking one and upgrading the other. Good luck mate it’s a very solid side. Little tightening I reckon you have the basis to be scoring very well from the start

    3. I like the team and structure and can’t fault any of the choices individually. One of the better teams I have seen actually. Maybe Fyfe, Swallow, Beams, JOM, Adams & Sandi is 1 or 2 injury risk players too many. I think Parfitt and Otten are 2 of the top 8 rookie priced players at this stage so I’d be all over them if they get picked.

    1. Hey Shaun.

      Check out “Chips Ahoys “team.

He makes some great points on Durability and Proven Performers.

You probably have few too many players coming off Long term injuries.

I would also only go one of Bonts and Treloar. Maybe trade one for a JPK or Hanners type they have a more proven history.

      Best of luck.

    2. Im not so sold on bont this year at that price, or really most of the doggies players.

They face a MUCH tougher fixture this year, hence why i have been against the Dahl/Macrae forward combo.

I have been heavily thumbs downed for it though, so take it with a grain of salt.

    1. Very solid team in wrestling with including Steele as well. The only thing that stands out to me is Nankervis- Roughie and Steele I think it’s to many mid pricers for one line. Ideally I’d take one maybe two of those three and upgrade the other.

    1. It’s either Marchbank or Rookies playing Sunday in Rd1. I can’t see Melican playing more than 2 games . I think Marchbank will average 70-85 and his spot in the side appears safe. I have zero confidence starting any defensive rookie priced players other than Marchbank, Otten and Hampton (who are all not rookies)

My biggest issues are with Docherty and him replicating or only slightly dropping off last years. If that’s the case can comfortable pick him as a Top 4 defender but I’m wrestling with taking Adams instead I think he can average 108-110 possibly and with his Dual position makes the team more adaptable during byes. I’ve had Gawn the whole time never thought about changing him but even the most loyal Gawn supporters have to be worried about the “Spencer Effect”. Although I see Scott experimenting with Pruess and Daw I think Goldy will be back to his dominate solo best this season he had a crook knee for the entire second half of the year last year but the position the Roo’s were in he played through it. Averaged 120 first 10 rounds before the knee injury. Year before fully fit had a monster season 128.6 average and his last 12 games that season including a 200+ were all over 110. I think like most that Rooey is slightly over priced, but I can’t see any scenario where he finishes averaging less than many of any other forwards available. Also 8 out of first 10 games at Etihad a ground he loves with an improved Saints outfit. Obviously JOM, Fyfe and Beams are the injury risk I’ve taken. Fyfe and Beams are keepers of the stay on the park and are both underpriced compared to what they can produce. Fyfe’ durability has worried me has never played more than 20 games in a season and on averaged 8 missed games over the last 5-6 years of football. Just can’t afford to miss out of he reproduces brownlow form. Beams before he was injured had a higher player rating than Dangerfield and Pendlebury so if he stays on the park no doubt he will be top 8-10 mid. JOM is a perfect stepping stone type priced player that can average you a 100 and quickly make you the cash to upgrade him, if this is the reason you’re using him his durability becomes largely irrelevant,if your picking him hoping he is a premium keeper then it starts to become worrying. Any thoughts appreciated. The more brutal the better because we are all running out of time to lock away a team.

    1. Very tidy team.

Solid players on each line, common rookie picks with minimal risk, a couple of C/VC options (plus loophole player), a few POD’s in Priddis and Buddy.

      Not much to fault.

Docherty may receive a bit more attention, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him drop a few points off his average this year. Will still be a top 6 defender though, so there’s nothing wrong with starting him. Adams a bit more risky, but with more upside – depends what you’d do with the extra cash, and I can’t see many options besides a rookie upgrade. Maybe JPK -> Pendles?

      1

      0
      1. Yeah I totally agree about Doch and they only one I’d consider to replace is Adams and it’s a risk but also as you said I’m not sure where I’d spend the extra cash. I’ve got $36k there so it would be about $100k I’m not sure where it would be useful so may aswell take doch and lock him away. But defiantly considering that option for sure. Thanks Blueballs

    1. I’d personally try and offload one of the mids (Priddis?) for JOM or even a rookie then look to upgrade one of the forward Rooks (Not for me but Nankervis F4 for ruck cover?). Not sure how keen I’d be starting Picket, Parfitt and Eddy especially with Powell-Pepper on the bench in the mids.

      1

      1. Easy fix though.

        Swap Taranto and Pickett.
Move SPP to M8 and Pickett to the mid bench.

The problem I see is having both Cameron and Strnadica at F7/8 and no coverage for Sandi (unless Preuss plays). Even if you find a way to squeeze Nankervis into the forward line, there’s no way to use him to cover a 1-2 week injury.

Reckon the forward line needs a rethink, and as TC10 suggested, a mid downgrade might be necessary to free up some funds.

      1. Yep, agreed.

Dahl and Macrae into the forward line, Miller and Yeo become O’Meara and Swallow. Worst case scenario, same points, best case you gain 15-20 a week. You also save $240k.

    1 hopeful breakout (Nankervis)
4 fallen premiums (Fyfe, Beams, Sandi, Roughy)

    2. Hey Josh.

I don’t consider Roughie and Beams Mid pricers. They are more like Fallen Premiums. If they stay fit they are proven SC performers.

Steele and Nankervis are possible “Break out” players with very solid job security.

Who knows what JOM is capable of.
I consider him a very expensive rookie.
He was very good in his first season. If he can repeat that he is a great stepping stone to a fallen premium.

      Best of luck.

The year of the no mid rookies and few cheap rookies leads to what at the start of the pre-season would have seemed certifiably insane.

1 premium forward line? 1? I don’t. Know what else. To do.

    Notes on players:

    Defence

Shaw – Will be top 2 defender end of year. Obvious choice over Docherty given longer term history.

Adams – Will be in the centre square at the first bounce. One of few genuine on-ballers that can be selected in defence. Will average 100 until he gets injured, ideally not at an unfortunate time.

Laird – Should rival Docherty / Simpson scores this year, but comes a lot cheaper. Some injury concern too, although less than Adams.

Marchbank – 1st of 4 +150k rookies. Will average 80 as intercept mark in Carlton’s backhalf, firmly locked in best 22.

Hampton – >40% ownership, speaks for itself

Otten – Best 123k rookie available this year. Ideally stays in best 22 or plays first 6-7 games @75-80.

Stewart – Only remaining best 22 defending rookie that has shown can score okay.

Guthrie – Captain’s loophole position, may play down the track. Chosen this position in defence given Otten’s scoring capabilities versus fwd rooks.

    Midfield

Dangerfield – >50% ownership, speaks for itself

Pendlebury – Rated 5th best midfielder in comp by peers. More SC points than any player over the last 3-7 years. Still under 30. Missed final game of JLT due to achilles a slight concern, will trade out if the news gets worse before Round 1, otherwise a lock.

Selwood – Rated 3rd best midfielder in comp by peers. Aside from 2015, averaged > 110 for every year this decade. Still under 30.

Bontempelli – Rated 4th best midfielder in comp by peers. Last year reminded me of Fyfe’s pre-breakout year. At worst will be top 10. At best will be top 3. Slightly cheaper than Sydney midfield trio.

Fyfe – >50% ownership, speaks for itself

Beams – Average over last 3 years says he is a top 10 midfielder. Looks fit and too cheap to ignore in absence of midfield rookies.

    O’Meara – >40% ownership, speaks for itself

Swallow – Along with Ryder, one of two midpricers I would prefer to avoid but can’t due to absence of rookies / structural requirements. Worst case scenario is 80 and goes up by $100k, best case would be 95-100 and won’t need too much extra cash for a fallen premium.

    Powell-Pepper – >50% ownership, speaks for itself

Barrett – 1 of only 2 sub $150k midfield only rookies that I expect to play and score okay.

Pickett – In best 22, will go big at times but spend most of the time floating between mid and fwd bench.

    Ruck

Goldstein – Goldy & Gawn should be 1 & 2, think they will average about the same anywhere between 105-115. Gawn is more expensive and Spencer is worrying. Would stay with Goldy even if I had the cash to upgrade.

Sandilands – If stays on the park, will average over 100. Bigger risk not picking him at that price.

Cameron – Ruck cover that is most likely to play, and already have donut rookies elsewhere.

    Forwards

Dahlhaus – >40% ownership, speaks for itself

Ryder – Have had Macrae here all pre-season. Had to make way of someone to afford more reliable expensive rookies (WHE, Marchbank, etc), and Macrae got the cut. Ryder has improved game on game throughout JLT, and am comfortable that he will reach 90-95 rucking alone, which looks likely. Also provides additional short term ruck cover if Sandi goes down when I have other problems to deal with.

Roughead – >40% ownership, speaks for itself

Hoskin-Elliott – firmly in best 22 and should average anywhere from 70-85. Chosen behind Tarantino but do not trust the lesser known names that are $100k cheaper at this point.

Taranto – Will be this years top 10 draft pick that goes big. Could average > 80, and in doing so, spot should be safe for the first 6-9 weeks, especially with current injury list at Giants.

Butler – Looks to have settled within the side, only expect around a 60 average though. Will be swapped with Eddy/Pickett utilising non-playing rookie to get best score each week.

Eddy – >40% ownership, speaks for itself

Deluca-Cardilio – 2nd non playing rookie, don’t expect to play at any stage throughout the year. Will always provide captains loophole if Guthrie gets a game, plays a lot of Sunday games, costs bugger all, and helps avoid worst rookie score each week in a 1 premium forward line.

I’ll try not to touch my team again until Rd 1 teams are named. What do you think?

    1. I enjoyed your explanations! thanks
      My comments are
Sydney have a few spots to fill but you seem to have overlooked them.
You have a particularly weak forward line.
      Your donuts do not float.

  49. Interesting Structure.

2 non playing Rookies is a bit of a waste.

Remember you need two fat cows to get 1 premium. 1 up 1 down.

You also have 6 players that have missed a lot of last year with Injury.

If they all stay fit your a Genius. If a few go down you will burn trades.

    Best of luck.

  50. The squad is really taking shape now. Would appreciate some thoughts and encourage constructive criticism.

Def: Docherty, Shaw, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Otten (Vickers-Willis, Stewart)

Mid: Dangerfield, Selwood, Treloar, Fyfe, Beams, O’Meara, Swallow, Powell-Pepper (Barrett, Wigg, Parfitt)

    Ruck: Goldstein, Sandilands (Cameron)

Fwd: Kennedy, Dahlhaus, Roughead, Nankervis, Taranto, Eddy (Pickett, Houston)

    $154.3k in the kitty.
Am I better off downgrading Marchbank to a genuine rookie and upgrading Swallow to a T. Mitchell?

    1. Captaincy loophole option as he probably won’t play, and has plenty of Sunday games.

Is at the lowest possible price for any player, so frees up funds for elsewhere.

Is a DPP, so can be matched up with Nankervis or Ryder in the forward line to cover rucks.

Plays for Freo, so if Sandi (popular pick) gets injured, he may just get a few games.

    1. Well firstly you should have some spare cash in your salary.

In your defence, the only problem I do see here is you have three Adelaide players in there. While there is a possibility it can work, it can also prove disastrous. Two reasons that can prove that. One, if Adelaide has a very bad day in the office it could effect all of them, and the risk of them scoring average numbers is likely in those situations. The other reason is the bye rounds. GWS I believe share the same bye round Adelaide does, so because you also have Shaw, you might have 4 players out in your defence. Also they’re the last bye round, which I think will be the most damaging for a lot of people considering some of the popular and bargain picks. You’d want as much people playing as possible that round if you want to get in one step ahead.

I know some people have gone with 3 $600k players in the mids, but I think maybe stick with two of them, just so you can get more money to splash around the rest of the field. With Merrett and Treloar, I personally think you should keep one of them, and downgrade the other to someone like Beams or Murphy. Beams is definitely a risk, but when he does play a near-full season, he is one of the most consistent scorers in Supercoach. I remember a couple of years back, I traded him into my side around Rd 4 or 5. He ended having about 10 games in a row where he scored 100+

Your rucks and forwards I don’t have much worries with. Maybe upgrade one of your forward bench players a bit.

      Hope this helps 🙂

      1. Yeah agree on the cash (I usually leave around $100k for trade flexibility) and your bye round point is valid, however I’d assume one or both of otten/Hampton would be traded out at that stage.

Beams is worth a look (although risky injury wise) but I’m not going near Murphy

        Thanks for the feedback

I spent AGES trying to get this right to a point where I thought it’s good enough.

Noticing a lot of people haven’t picked Matty Boyd could prove to be a good POD (Then again, a lot of people outside this thread may have pick him).
I will say something about the two big Carlton defenders, Docherty and Simpson.
One thing I always look at when sorting my team before the start of the season, is looking at their previous seasons (especially if they’re experienced players). I saw a huge turnoff when looking at Simpson’s seasons. Last year was the first he has ever had a 100+ averaging season. Most of his other seasons have averaged around the early-to-mid 90’s, and there were about 8 seasons he had been scoring around those numbers. While that is still fairly good to a point, I’d rather take Matthew Boyd, who has only averaged under 100 once inbetween 2009 and 2016 (which was 2014 when he got 97.3, coming back from injuries in the previous season). Regardless that most of his career has been in the midfield, I’d still take him because he’s more consistent.
Docherty rose about 20 points in average last year, from what was getting in 2015. But it was still only his third season. Personally, I feel I should give him some more time to prove he a stable premium defender. If he does, I may get him sometime later in the season, if not a certain starter next year.

Everyone else I pick I think are in a fair few people’s mix of teams.

    1. Boyd might not play round one – copped a nasty cut on his ear in the last practice match – he’s a gun but getting a tad old, just expect a couple of “general soreness” games if you do pick him

    1. Solid, similar structure to my drafted squad.

Are you using Cameron as cash generation or loophole? If purely loophole the Freo guy has more Sunday games 😉

    1. They were organised about 3-4 weeks ago. Send an email to ‘motts at supercoachtalk dot com’, maybe there’s a spot free somewhere? If not, there should be some more Community TEAM Leagues opening up over the weekend (or early next week)……….
