Couple of young Defenders on the rise. Both drift forward, both have the ability to run and break lines. Doubtful that either will wear the sub vest once this year. Who would you take?
Yarran v Heppell

Both are the best kind of attacking defenders you need for Supercoach. Heppell has a huge engine who can rack up big possessions with ease & seems like a consistent scorer yet Yarran is a game breaker who change the course of a match just by running off half back & thru the middle to hit an open forward or pressure opponents with his tackling. Too hard to call for me but both will serve well as a 4th defender or upgrade for anyones team. Future superstars. Flip a coin.

Just say it BR&B. Motts put this one up there to test the likes of you and I and you my friend have fallen for his “Diplomacy” trap.
We don’t like Carlton and therefore could never consider a Heppell V Yarran poll as it is Heppell everyday of the week. Heppell is a mini Hird in the making and Yarran is in the mould of Tambling or Relton Roberts.
Hot debate. What do you think?

Lol I took the diplomatic road Juddy but ok im goin with Heppell cuz he’s wearing the right colours at least. I hafta admit though i do hate the hawks more than the blues….With Carlton its more of a healthy dislike. Hows ur supercoach side goin? Still tinkering? What position needs the most work?

I posted it earlier this morning on the rate thread but here it is again if you wish to critique.
OK. This should be my starting squad barring any injuries to established players and the disappearance or emergence of rookies.
God, Heater, Fish, Brought, Ellis, Bugg, Smedts (Darley, Brown)
GAJ, Boyd, Joelwood, Watto, Masten, Reid, (Magner, Old Mac)
Sauce, Redden, (Giles, Big O)
Buddy, Fyfe, Pav, Dusty, Dangermouse, Porps, Sexton, (Izzy, Couch)
$700.00 left in the kitty
I don’t know whether or not that I am happy with this team as it goes away from pure prem/rook strategy but I am not sold on a number of rookies and have real concerns about a lot of them being vested when they do get a call up whereas Dangermouse, Porps(if uninjured) and Masten could really be set for big years and will not see a lot of pine time.

Nice team Juddy, especially the FWD line. Agree with all BRB has to say (above and below) with emphasis on the rookie blowout (Neale/Magner). Typical SC, as soon as something looks too good to be true…
Seems to be more and more favour and movement toward the mid pricers, as this poll suggests. As a Blue’s supporter, I’m excited by what I see from Yarran but the extra $21K is a lot of money when it comes to a mid pricer at D4/5. Heppell probably wins on a value for money basis.
Personal preference is to stick with the G’n'R strategy but this is getting harder and harder with these blokes and the likes of Dangerfield, Lake, Porpoise all showing promise.
Its amazing how solid your other lines can look with 1/3 Rucks in play. Can’t quite bring myself to take the full plunge just yet but I’ve started the slide with a downgrade from 2 premium to Mum+Kruezer.
Here’s the team at present,
Godds, Scotland, Lids, Heater, Bower, Ellis, Smedts,
(Bugg, Darley)
GAJ, Murph, Joelwood, Hayes, Treloar, McDonald,
(Magner, Gibson)
Mum, Kreuze,
(Giles, Redden)
Buddy, Goodes, Fyfe, Dusty, Porps, Tomlinson, D.Smith
(Saad, Hall)
Keen to hear your thoughts especially on the following:
Bower – am I a misguided one-eyed Blue’s supporter or is there some merit in this gamble? Need major tweaks to get Lake in.
DPP – only have one (Treloar) in MID at present. Thinking the new rule and having several DEF/MID and FWD/MID will provide enough flexibility for trades through the midfield.
Magner – still have him on the bench. How long can a finger take? Should I move him on and scoop him up as the first downgrade option?
Still so much tinkering to do and so little time…

Strong side as well O. Not to sold on Hayes myself but plenty of others are.
Bower- with Jameson out injured he will probably get the game time but if it is js you are after you should talk to Motts.
There are enough def/mids going around and you should have them as premiums in your fwds and defs. You really should take whatever rookies that will be playing as much as possible regardless of their positional status. No point in having a DPP that is getting you 20-30 when the same price pure is rocking 60-70.
Magner-Might be available for R1 IF it is only a dislocation. I dislocated my thumb 3 years back and was playing the next week. If it was fractured however….
No more tinkering for me till end of NAB and Friday 23rd cos I can’t be fucked tbh.

Thanks for your thoughts Juddy. So you’ve finished tinkering? What will you do with all the free time? Nice avatar btw.
Bower is definitely a question mark atm. Can’t seem to upgrade to Lake without major restructure. Might finally cave in and go 1/3 rucks to free up cash.
What would you do?
Thumbs Up – Kreuzer + Bower
Thumbs Down – 3rd Rookie Ruck + Lake (+170K)

Thats a strong squad youve got juddy. You went for the 1prem 3rookie strategy which can be a double edged sword but the rookie ruckmen look solid this year than previous years (especially Redden). Your fwd line is looks dangerous, got a good balance between all positions except obviously your rucks. Probably need another ddp player somewhere mids for better coverage just in case. The rookies are causing the most problems for me in the mids & fwds. Hard to know which player will play games without the green vest or who has better js. Magner & neale injured are a massive blow to every team i think. Ahhh bloody supercoach….its a love/hate relationship (mostly love though) lol

I’m not sure that the DPP is super relevant until the byes. I can move Fyfe/Pav or Martin into the mids at anytime when I trade Reid, Magner or Miles (just recently changed Old Mac to Miles and Izzy to Cameron) or cash a rookie into said DPP when the opportunity arises. My take on it is to get as strong a side as you can to begin with and then make it up as you go along. I belive that the mass 3 round bye and the new trade rule has made it easier for me.

@ Omen. Paul bower is a steal at $150k especially with jamison & laidler out for the few months. Definite game time. So you wont hafta worry bout js for now i dont think. Magner will be back but still not sure by round 1 though….Dees mite wanna be cautious now that they’ve found the next michael barlow. DPP i think is important cuz with supercoach you neva know whats gonna happen (injuries, suspension, subtitute) & better to swap players than havin to switch one player to a different possie then hafta to trade in another player. Save as many trades as you can IMO. Great team though Omen, looks like its gonna be a tough SCT league competition

Cheers BR&B. Feeling much better about Bower already, especially in terms of JS. Will make a late call on Magner, if he’s likely to be back R2-3 might as well hold onto him. In a perfect world, I’d have 1-2 more DPP in MID but, given its a very far from perfect SC world we live in, I’ll be looking to upgrade here ASAP. Aiming to have new DPP premiums in place before anything goes seriously BANG!!!
