Vice-Captaincy Candidates
MITCHELL v Crows
- L3 v Crows: 136, 118, 101 (118 av.)
- L3 @ AO: 122, 132, 105 (120 av.)
Been eyeing off this match up for a while. With the Crows barely a side anymore, expect Titch to carve them for nothing less than 135 especially with Jaegar O’Meara out.
NAITANUI v Dons
- L3 v Dons: 99, 147, 66 (104 av.)
- L3 @ G: 85, 137, 83 (102 av.)
Was underwhelming last week on account of Soldo restricting his aerial ability and then a fresh Nankervis being rotated in. With the Dons opting for just Draper as a solo ruck, Nic Nat will bounce back with 125 at a minimum.
FYFE v Tigers
- L3 v Tigers: 133, 142, 99 (125 av.)
- L3 @ MS: 84, 71, 166 (107 av.)
Will be frustrated that De Boer cancelled him out and then got parked up FWD where he saw little action. Expect Fyfe to come out hot and pump out 120, with a high ceiling potential if the Dockers are somehow competitive.
Captaincy Candidates
GAWN v Swans
- L3 v Swans: 113, 119, 82 (105 av.)
- L3 @ CS: N/A
Made an impressive return last week with 135 against Ryder and RoMo and with the Dees’ next four match-ups all against sides with shallow ruck stocks, you can pencil in Big Maxxy to storm home – starting with a 140 against Sinclair this week.
WHITFIELD v Blues
- L3 v Blues: 170, 141, 117 (143 av.)
- L3 @ MS: 131, 148, 111 (130 av.)
Just looked excellent off of HB last week and led the Giants for possessions, marks and TOG for 167 SC. He’s got tremendous stats against the Blues and at Metricon and could go 150 this week, provided he remains at HB and not on the wing or bursting off HF.
NEALE v Pies
- L3 v Pies: 91, 104, 140 (112 av.)
- L3 @ G: 72, 167, 130 (123 av.)
The bye will have done Neale some major good. Expecting a fresh Lions side to put a still underdone Collingwood to the sword, so Neale a lock for 130.
Steer Clear
CRIPPS v Giants
- L3 v GWS: 66, 122, 70 (86 av.)
- L3 @ MS: 56, 169, 173 (133 av.)
So clearly been injured all year, copped another knock last week, coming up against a side that notoriously monopolizes SC points and will get De Boer. Just steer clear. Guaranteed to sub-ton.
Smoky Pick
SATAN OLIVER v Swans
- L3 v Swans: 87, 92, 121 (100 av.)
- L3 @ CS: N/A
Nailed the Smoky Pick with Zerrett last week, will try my luck with Satan this time around. He was underwhelming for most of three quarters v Saints, but then turned it on in the last when the Dees needed his cleanliness with ball in hand and contested possession work resulting in a 60 SC point quarter. With Gawn to dominate in the ruck and the Swans leaking MID points all year, Satan’s a devilish chance for 140+.
Verdict
Very conflicted, 5 or so excellent options this week. Might forgo Titch who isn’t able to accumulate as much as he used to in these shorter games (only 140+ twice in 2020). Instead I’ll look for a combination of Whitfield, Gawn and maybe Neale.

Mitchell into Whitfield for me.
Like the Fyfe review, can see him going big against my tigers.
Tigers smashed the Dogs and Macrae still went for 164.
Oliver into Neale
Whitfield is tempting as VC, though
Beautiful, thanks GD
Titch into Neale
Is Zerrett an option?
Naitanui to Whitfield for me
However, we must have a bye in our league so might as well take a punt on Whitfield
Still have a nagging suspicion that Mitchell may cop Keays and Whitfield will get attention after what he did to Freo. Surely Fyfe comes out swinging after last round.
Fyfe into Oliver for me
Like the smokey for this week GD, back it in
Probably leaning towards Whitfield into Neale, not sure Titch has the ceiling this year.
Laird for VC crazy? T/U
Or just stick with the safer Merrett? T/D
Captain Neale
Whitfield to Neale
What is Merret stats like?
Titch into Neale will take 125
Dam leaning toward Whitfield or Gawn as C tough choices
Titch into Gawn for me.
Does Curnow go to Whitfield with Kelly ruled out?
Lloyd into Neale. Thoughts?
Richmond doesn’t tag so hopefully Fyfe can score big.
