Vale allsaints

Written by Motts on June 16 2020

Hi guys

It’s with a heavy heart I’m writing to tell you that allsaints has passed away. He was out with mates on Friday, May 28 – one of the first weekends people were allowed out after lockdown – and had a heart attack. His funeral was last Friday.

I only found out after I called his office when no one had heard from him for a number of weeks. The colleague of his that I spoke to there said they loved working with him. She said he had an infectious enthusiasm and LOVED his AFL. This is part of a message that went out to the company from the MD after he passed:

“One of the things I will remember best about working with him was the passion that he brought to every conversation. Whether it was a chat about football, his son or our work he was always such an engaging person to speak with. His commitment to wanting to make the world a better place for future generations was also an inspiration and I left most conversations with him thinking we could achieve great things!”

He leaves behind a wife and 6 year old boy.

And for all of us, he leaves a huge hole. We all benefited from his insights and enthusiastic engagement. Not just here on the site but on Twitter as well. His contributions on both will be dearly missed.

If you have any memories of allsaints that you’d like to share, I encourage you to do so in Comments. My intention is to send a link to this post to his wife so she can see how much he meant to us all.

Vale allsaints.

If you’ve ever benefited from Oli’s advice and would like to give something back, I’ve set up a GoFundMe page where you can do exactly that. 100% of everything raised will go to the Darebin Parklands in Alphington in accordance with his wife’s wishes.

Thanks guys

  1. Absolute tragedy. One of the like minded people who loved the Premier League as much as AFL (even if it were Man City and St Kilda, instead of Chelsea and WCE). Always found his input to be well reasoned, insightful and done with a sense of humour and humility. Will be greatly missed. Heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the family.

  2. Of course, while there is no equivalence in the intimacy and trauma of Oli’s passing felt by between his loved ones and the capacity in which we all knew him, I can attest that through budding friendship I developed with him at the start of the year that he was a thoroughly decent man with a charismatic personality and a caring heart. By all accounts a loving husband, father and son-in-law, an upstanding and respected colleague and, on SCT, an insightful, enthusiastic, and integral member of the community. For me, I took up the offer to come aboard the SCT admin in large part because Oli’s enthusiasm and passion was infectious and from there I had the pleasure, albeit brief, to get to know him.

Beyond SCT, the world has lost a truly good man – the depth of which will always be remembered here.

To his loved ones, our condolences. May he rest in peace.

  3. Wow. Horrible news to hear about allsaints. He contributed so much to this site. I can’t speak of him outside of our little community here, but he was insightful and hard working with all that he did for this place. It speaks well of what his character in the rest of his life must’ve been like.

  4. It is real sad to see him go. The contributions he has made to the site in the last couple of years has been tremendous! I remember spending many times discussing with him about making certain trade decisions.
It was great to see the articles he produced for the 2019 and 2020 season, helping out so many people.
I send out my condolences for his friends and family and he will not be forgotten here at SCTalk as what he did for the community deserves a lot of appreciation

    Rest in Peace AllSaints <3

  5. I was hoping the subject title was a play on words, but sadly it is not.

allsaints was SCT royalty. He was one of those contributors who was widely respected and his views and advice were always sought out. He will be missed here.

My condolences to allsaints’ family and friends.

  8. A tragedy on so many levels!! Not only for his family and friends, his work and colleagues and the SuperCoachTalk fraternity, but for the community at large if his experiences with us and his workplace are anything to go by.

I know there are massive amounts SCT people out there who will miss his insight, pragmatism and and genuine concern for making all our experiences better.

And through all this, I now know why I was only second last in the contributors league after my ordinary start to the year. Not how I would’ve liked to be off the bottom, and I’d trade in last place in every league to keep seeing the “All Saints” moniker continue if it were possible.

    Rest in Peace Oli.

    1. I hear you JimmyDee. I joined one of his beatallsaints leagues and i was wondering why he was so off the pace this season. Seemed out of character. Going to be a challenge going through the season seeing allsaints sitting in many the SCT communities leagues and knowing what we now know.

  11. This is the worst possible of news and an absolute tragedy for Oli’s family. I hope they are all looking after each other as best they can in this awful time and I know he will be dearly missed by them all. My condolences go out to his family and friends.

I was wondering why he had not replied to my text’s and phone messages and had hoped it was because he’d had to rush back to England for some reason. I’d enjoyed the conversations we’d had from last year to this year and was looking forward to getting to know him even better – albeit from Brisbane to Melbourne! And not to mention continuing in convincing him of the error of his ways in not supporting Liverpool and the Bombers!

As has been mentioned above, he had an engaging personality, and genuinely appeared to care about everyone, no matter how little he knew of them. That came through on the site, in the sheer volume of work and articles and advice that he was always able and happy to provide. It was also evident in how ‘gentlemanly’ he dealt with responding to all posts and how evenly he carried himself. Clearly these traits were evident in all aspects of his life.

His presence, advice, wisdom, and sheer volume of engagements will be sorely missed by all on the site and it is a mark of how genuinely respected he had become in such a short time, with Mottsy asking him to be part of the team. I will miss him, his advice and seeing his name here on these pages.

    Rest in peace Oli.

  12. How can someone I have not met left such an indelible impression. In life, we are lucky if we have 3 or true close friends…in SC we are a community who all share a common interest and love, whether its playful chiding or arrogant bragging. As was one of a relatively small number of SC legends and giants who made the site what it is, and although he had equals, there was none better.
I survived a cardiac arrest just over five years ago, having been revived nine times and been given up on as lost. My outlook and life changed forever. As sad passing and my luck demonstrate that no day should be taken for granted.
In a bizzare way, I am glad I saw this thread. I too was wondering where As was, and was just about to post a comment asking whether he was hiding from us because of his poor start. That would have been a horrible faux pas for me to have to have carried.

We need to remember him somehow. I’m in one of his leagues and suggest that that league be somehow abandoned for the year. Maybe we can come up with some memorial award or similar for the future, possibly awarded at an end of season function that might aid a charity.

For the time being, we all need to reflect and remember the great man, in whatever category we new him.

    Vale.

  15. He was a regular and joyful presnce here and on Twitter. I loved his work here and talking with him about SC numbers and was so looking forward to working with him again once evrything started back up. He was smart and insightful and always upbeat and enthusiastic.

When my dogs were getting demolished by the Saints last weekend I thought of him, and figured he must bo so happy to see his team doing well. Probably was still.

He made a connection from half a world away, and I’m in tears now. He’s going to be missed. A Lot, by Many.

  16. That is terrible news and huge condolences to his family and friends.

I can only echo the comments from people above regarding his infectious passion, sharp intellect and constructive support. I’ve had plenty of interactions with him on here and Twitter and was wondering why he hadn’t been engaging of late.

I was always impressed with his ability to think outside the square and open my mind to different possibilities. It was ‘only’ supercoach, but I often sought him out for his views and thoroughly enjoyed our exchanges.

It’s quite profound isn’t it, that despite never physically meeting someone you can still feel their loss. Sad news indeed but love the idea of tributes such as leagues and cups In Memoriam.

  17. Very sad news that SCT has lost one of their own. I really feel for his wife and young boy. I would like to send my condolences to all of his family.

Sainter was a ray of sunshine since he first hit the site 3 years ago and I played in a number of leagues with him over the years.

Motts and I were concerned when Sainter was a no show for the PC two weekends back but became very alarmed when his SC team last weekend. was untouched which for such a great contributor to the site and Twitter community raised alarm bells.

Sainter is a huge loss to the world as I encouraged him to join Twitter and when not talking about SC his tweets showed compassion and great values on a range of issues.

The SuperCoach community on twitter will miss AllSaints dedicated hard work. Once he joined twitter he compiled all the stats from all of the pre season games becoming an overnight sensation gathering 600 followers in a week.

I know by my communication with Sainter in private chats that he was a thoughtful, understanding and compassionate man after reaching out to me earlier in the year to see how I was holding up after getting some bad news in regards to close a family member.

You will not be forgotten AllSaints. R. I. P.

    Rest in peace allsaints.

  19. So sad to hear this news. I had enjoyed by football banter with him over the past few seasons, and loved going up against him in the many shared leagues we were in. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I loved reading all his contributions to this great site, and can tell how much he loved this great game & the competition and discussions we all shared with him, from time to time. He will be sadly missed by all coaches to SCT and the renaming of the SCT Cup to the “All Saints SCT Cup” is a fantastic suggestion to keep his legacy alive. RIP All Saints, and condolences to his family.

  20. Very sad to hear this news. I have always loved reading and responding to his many helpful contributions on this site and going up against him in a number of leagues. It was always fun having a bit of banter with him the week after a match against each other. He had a great love for the game and was always willing to help others and share his incredible amount of research to the SCT Community. My condolences to his family.
Rest in peace Allsaints, you will be missed.

  29. I’m absolutely devastated by this news.

From my very first article written and published on this site, AllSaints has always encouraged and inspired me to continue writing and creating content for this website with his kind words and enthusiasm for my thoughts and ideas. Every time I read one of his comments it lit a fire in me that made me want to go write another article straight away. His enthusiasm for the game was infectious.

However, despite my growing as a writer and finding and developing my own style over the last few years, I have always, ALWAYS been jealous and envious of how good Oli’s articles are. Even just from a quick skim, you can tell how much passion, love, time, care, energy, heart (you name it!) he put into every single piece. Although we have an incredible group of writers and contributors on this awesome site, Oli for me is the gold standard, and sets a precedent that we should all be striving to reach.

Even though I’ve never met him, I still have so many fond memories from our online chats and banter. Everything from having a laugh at how similar our teams always are when the season starts (I think our biggest difference was about 5 or 6 players!) to our huge man-crush on Jack Steele (although that didn’t turn out too crash hot last season!)

The most impressive aspect of Oli however was how kind-hearted he was. Any time someone had a question or a query, he would ALWAYS be there to answer in-depth. He had so much time for every single person on this site and the wider community, whether it was a first time poster or Motts, he always took the time. Hell, earlier this year I made a joke post on Twitter about how I couldn’t do a team reveal when Supercoach first opened because I wasn’t a Gold subscriber, and later that day I had a message from Oli with the login details to an account with access (although don’t tell the folks over at the Herald Sun that, shhhh). He was just that kind of bloke.

So here I am, crying real tears for a man whose face I didn’t even know until today. That’s how much he means to me, and I’m sure all of us.

My thoughts and condolences go out to his family and friends, I can’t even imagine what they’re going through right now.

    Rest easy mate.

  31. Absolutely tragic news.

I’ve never been a massive poster here at SCT, but any time I contributed or asked for advice, AS would always reply or entertain my thoughts.

I never met the man, but you could just feel he was a top drawer bloke.

He is a large part of why I continue to play SC and use this community.

Love and prayers to his family.

    You’ll be missed AS.

  37. Absolutely shocked and saddened to learn of All Saints passing today. It was thru one of his tweets that I found this community. It was he who introduced me to the supercoachtalk site. I always looked forward to his responses to various questions raised by the community. He had a keen mind and a great understanding of the nuances of fantasy football, far greater than mine. I will miss his insight and his willingness to help one and all achieve a more rounded and better structured team than the one you had the week before.

My sympathy and well wishes to his wife, his son, his family and his friends at this sad time.

  38. So very very sad & I’m so very very sorry to hear All Saints has passed.
I looked forward with enthusiasm to read what he had to say on so many topics &
I have great admiration for his obviously tireless effort he put into his Excell posts.
I am surprised to learn that he was still a young man, his approach on this site seemed fitting of a man much older & wiser than his photo suggests.
I admit I searched for his responses to threads, as did I this past fortnight…

  48. Deepest condolonces go out to Oli’s family. I know how much you all meant to him…….
Really taken aback after reading the news yesterday. I’m in the same boat as most of you…….I never met Oli face-to-face. Obviously while I was trying to organise the site from here, practically all of my contacts were through email or social media messengers.
I was immediately drawn to Oli’s charismatic personality and constant willingness to help his fellow Coaches on the site. We shared many personal details over the years through our correspondence. One constant that always shone through was that he put his family first above everything. I’d been begging Oli to contribute to the site for a long time before he actually started. At the time, Oli felt he needed more of his spare time to spend with his family, and I respected him for his decision.
It comes as no surprise to see how much support Oli had behind him in the SuperCoach community. That’s just testament to the character that we all interacted with on a regular basis. He was a friendly, caring, smart, insightful, happy and loving guy that will be sorely missed…….. Rest In Peace, My Friend……..

  52. I’m in shock.

This is the worst possible news. I realised no one had touched Ollie’s team last weekend. I thought maybe he was distracted by work or family commitments. Never did I even consider he may have passed.

I have spent endless hours on this site bantering back and forth with allsaints as we knew him. I never got to meet him face to face, I guess I never will. I can’t remember being so affected by the death of someone I’ve never even met. I guess that really shows what a great guy Ollie was.
He was always there with advice to anybody who asked. Not only that, but he set a benchmark of being open and honest without the usual patronising tone some “experts” tend to use with “newby’s”
I just can’t imagine logging onto this site and not getting to read some smart informative piece, expertly articulated by allsaints himself.
My heart goes out to all those nearest and dearest to Ollie.

That photo on the Go fund me page breaks my heart.

    Vale Sainter.

    RIP mate.

  57. Hi guys, I just got a lovely message back from Oli’s wife. I’m sure she wouldn’t mind me putting her email to me on the site:

“Many thanks for reaching out. I am so glad someone was able to let you know about Oli as I had no idea who to contact on your end to let everyone know. Apologies for the delay in replying to you however it’s been difficult with all the funeral arrangements and focusing on Archie and making sure he feels secure. It was an awful shock for us and we miss Oli immensely.

Thank you also for posting and sharing the replies which are just amazing to read and so very comforting. If only he could know how much he was valued by your community. It warms my heart no end.

The GoFundMe page is incredibly kind and while I am shocked at the generosity I really shouldn’t be so surprised as Oli was a remarkable human being. I have given some thought to where the funds should go which was no easy task as Oli had many interests and passions but I have landed on a donation to the Darebin Parklands in Alphington Melbourne. It was and is a place where we used to spend lot of time as a family enjoying nature and the outdoors and a place that is particularly special to his son Archie. I think it is where we will end up laying his ashes to rest so I think a donation to that location would be fitting especially given Oli’s passion for the environment. Thank you.

I can’t thank you enough for everything you have done and are doing to honour Oli. It is so very kind and much appreciated. Please send a heartfelt thanks to your community for their support and take care of yourself and your family.”

Personally, I want to thank everybody who has donated to Oli’s GoFundMe page. The generosity of the SCT community is amazing. I’m going to give it another week before closing it off. Cheers, Motts

I’ll be donating 100% of that to the Darebin Parkland as per Oli’s wife’s wishes as soon as it hits my account in a few days’ time.

Thank you to everyone who donated. You guys really are the best community any website could ever hope to have.

  61. Hey team, I’ve just made the donation to the Darebin Creek Management Committee which looks after the Darebin Parkland. They’ve got a fundraiser at the moment where they’re trying to raise $10k and our donation DOUBLED their total from $1,910 to $3,832. Everyone who donated should be proud of that.

In return for our donation, they’re going to give Oli’s wife a tree that she and Archie can plant in the park somewhere. Given Oli’s love of the environment, I think a tree is a wonderful way of keeping his memory alive. If you’re in the park over the coming months and see a new tree planted in there, think of our old mate allsaints.

Vale Oli, we’ll miss you, mate.
