Studs

Doedee was allowed to do his thing yet again coming up against a team with a small forward line as he amassed 28 disposals (8 kicks) at 89% DE, 8 marks (3 contested), 4 tackles and 7 1%ers resulting in 120 points. Those who had him as D7 cover for Simpson were laughing.

Austin did his part for those who didn’t have the great Doedee and at least put up a solid 86 points from 18 disposals (11 kicks) at 78% DE, 4 marks (2 contested), 3 tackles and 5 1%ers. We’ve seen this before, as long as Brown isn’t playing, he does alright!

Newbies

Lynch was one of the main distributors across half back for the Dogs and finished with 5 rebound 50s from his 23 disposals (15 kicks) at 87%DE, 5 marks and a tackle but giving away 3 free kicks held him to 84 points. On the bubble and has found his roll courtesy of the injury toll at the kennel.

D.Joyce somehow managed more clangers (4) than disposals (3) in what resulted in -3. One he will want to forget quickly.

Newbies

Trengrove goes back to back 77s after collecting 16 disposals (10 kicks) at 94% DE, 8 marks, 4 tackles and 3 1%ers. Has found a new lease across the backline and is on the bubble this week.

Sier continued his run through the middle and finished with an equal team 2nd high 4 inside 50 entries from 14 disposals (6 kicks) at 86% DE. He was relatively quite otherwise and had just a mark, 3 tackles and a goal assist to end on 51 points. He’s had a couple of easier games the last fortnight and with a run of West Coast, North Melbourne, Richmond and Sydney over the next month, we’ll find if he (and Collingwood) are pretenders or contenders.

Long played 3 senior games in 2016 but with the banned Bombers back in action from 2017 onwards he has been on the outer. Played in his first loss but managed 17 disposals (7 kicks) at 88% DE, 5 marks, 5 tackles, 4 1%ers and a goal assist but 5 clangers, 4 of which were giving away a free kick dropped his score back to 63.

Narkle and his hype had dropped off this week as he struggled to 37 points from 12 disposals (4 kicks) and relied on a goal to give his score a boost.

Studs

Higgins as found a way to score  without hitting the scoreboard as he’s been pushing into the midfield at times and finished up with 25 disposals (10 kicks) at 68% DE, 5 marks (1 contested) and 2 tackles but it was the 11 contested possessions (5th team high) the helped him get to 89 points.

Ahern was popular cover for many Heeney owners this week and did his part giving those coaches a solid 81 courtesy of 22 disposals (13 kicks), 4 marks, 3 tackles and 2 goals. His score was heavily punished though win a team low 55% DE combining with an equal match 2nd high 6 clangers. Oh what could have been.

Duds

Ronke and his days as a cash cow are done (said this before though) after just scraping together 39 from 12 disposals. His 42% DE for the night really held him back.

Apeness needs that No1 ruck duty to score well and was pushed from that role with Darcy getting his first game for the season. Playing forward and lending a hand in ruck on occasion, he contributed 5 disposals (3 kicks) at 100% DE, 8 hitouts, 2 marks, 6 tackles and 3 1%ers but an equal team high 5 clangers (4 frees against) held him back to 35 points.

Spargo broke back into the seniors this week but with 13 disposals (77% DE), no contested possessions and 5 clangers, he might not stay for long and his 34 points is probably fair given he at least kicked a goal.

Newbies

Powell was busy and was one of a handful of Suns that reached double digit possessions to have at least 50% contested rate which helped his 15 disposals (9 kicks) at 87% DE get to 66 points. On the bubble and could be on the of the last MID/FWD downgrade options that may play here and there til the end of the season.

  1. Thanks Hutta. I’d like to have ticked 5 of them this week. Need to give those on the bench as much encouragement as I can, given their inevitable and imminent call-ups to play when injuries hit.
Fritsch already afield, Ahern played last week, but don’t think it’ll be long before Doedee, Trengove and Callum Moore’s services are called upon 🙂

  2. Tempted to give Doedee a game this week against Geelong. Thoughts? Up/down. Would mean Savage (v Blues) is benched. No loophole sadly.

  3. Looking for a downgrade target with good js who can be solid bench cover for the rest of the season. I like Powel and his m/f ability to swap with Ahern. Who is the best choice?

    Up – Lynch < Austin
    Dn – Powel (m/f) < T.Smith

    Comment – Sier

  4. Is it worth going Spargo to Trengove as mid cover? Would mean I have Ahern for cover in forward line but no Mid/Fwd swing. Would leave me with 2 trades (ouch) and $123k in the bank.

  5. Hard watching Doedee after parting with him before his bye….I hate the byes. Traded Doedee for Andrews as I thought Doedees scoring had dried up.

We all know the rest…had to swap Andrews to Crisp after 1 week. All in all I actually lost points and burned 2 trades in the process.
