R3 Trading Strategy

Written by Motts on April 11 2012

How are you approaching this week’s trading? Will you be trading out an underperforming rookie for someone like Greene or Milera? Will you be switching a supposed Premium out like G Broughton for someone else priced around $500k? Or will you be jumping on some of the midprice talent that has popped up like Dempsey and Ebert?

  6. Hey guys,
Do you think it is worth keeping Hale and Golby, for this week. It would put me ahead of the pack on the trade front. They both have easier draws coming up, and it would kill me if they both scored like they did in the NAB. The only problem is, i would be missing out on the mid pricers that are about to explode in price.

    Thumbs up- Good logic
Thumbs down- Trade Max, your already behind in the overall rankings

  7. Guys. Quality premium defenders are like hens teeth.

Shaw, broughton and the Scot will come good.

The mids like lake and Dempsey looks very juicy but they will be in realible.

Back your original plan, don’t burn trades and Don’t PANIC!

  9. Will Gibbs be tagging all year?
Is there any point in me hanging on to him if this is the case, I know I am jumping the gun a bit and might not trade him out this week, how many more rounds do I give him though?

  13. This is my supercoach rookie year and I am far from being an expert on all this. I would like some help on this so i don’t make a mistake now and ruin my rookie season. Lots of people say trades are ‘Gold’ and don’t burn them all up but this is what my strategy was.

    Rounds 1 to 3:
Trade hard and aggressive, use up 5 or so trades, swap rookies and the odd premium (ie Broughton) to make my team perfect for the rest of the season.

    Rounds 4 to 8:
Rest and watch my cash cows grow and premiums be premiums.

    Rounds 9 to 13:
Trade hard and aggressive, make 12 or so trades during these 5 rounds, cash in on a lot of cash cows for premiums

    Rounds 14 to Seasons end:
Keep a few trades handy, hopefully have about 6-7 left, for the odd injury and and upgrade a few remaining rookies traded in during rounds 9-14 that hopefully by chance become cash cows.

thumbs up- Good trade strategy to have
thumbs down- Bad strategy, trades are gold!

Cheers for the help guys 🙂

  14. Ive been pretty happy with my original rookie selections, but missed two I’m keen on. Like many, the decision on which rookies to swap from are difficult, or whether to just sit back and wait for my original selections to fatten rather tha chasing the fast cash.

I would be most likely trading out Hall for Milera, and Ledger for Greene (as many others are contemplating).

Most of the posts are asking who to trade, but would you trade at all? Definitely money to be made, but two extra trades in the finals would be oh so handy!

Thumbs up – jump on the cows
Thumbs down – just wait, Hall and Ledger will get there soon

  15. Have the Broughton dilemma like a lot of coaches, do I hang on for another week or offload him for Demspey/Bower downgrade or another premium like Birchall/Carazzo?
If I downgrade him I can bring Sandilands into my ruck for Minson who I must get rid of. Or keep Broughton and trade minson for Ryder
thumbs up for downgrade Broughts and bring in Sandi
thumbs down for Ryder and keep Broughton

  16. I am currently thinking Coniglio for Greene and Ledger for Milera? Which would mean I can open up my mids after a last minute Pfeiffer trade. Or should I just do a Ledger for Milera OR should I keep Ledger and get rid of one of Dickson/Hall… It’s so early in the season for it to be so hard. Maybe I won’t do anything!

  17. Trades this week:

    Option 1:

    G.Broughton —> G.Birchall
    D.Smith —–> T.Milera

    Option 2:

    G.Broughton —-> P.Bower
    D.Smith —-> T.Milera
    + $350,000

    Thumbs Up – Option 1

    Thumbs Down – Option 2

  18. I think I like the fixture this week. Broughton playing Lions and Martin playing Melbourne might just save me knee-jerking a couple of bad trades.

Will jump on the instant cash boost from Milera.

Also kinda hoping Mumford doesn’t get up this week. If he doesn’t play then I will be welcoming NicNat back into the fold after wineing and dining him all pre-season. That will also give me the cash to offload Broughton to Godd if he spuds it up again this week.

  20. Absolutely torn….
Have decided to keep scotland/shaw etc and go for some better rookies for $$$.

shiel, smith or ledger ———> Kennedy in mids for DPP

hall, dickson or tomlinson ———–> milera

    So the Q’s are:
Do the 2 trades? OR just cash in on 1 of kennedy/milera?
    For which players above?

Any thoughts would be great on the trades or theory for round 2 of rookie trading.

  21. Alright … decided i will not make a corrective premium change. I was tempted to boot out a few but i will stick fat with them (for now). Scotland, you’ve been warned that my talent identification scouts are watching Bock very closely this week.

I am contemplating a rookie change. If Smedts doesn’t get up i’ll switch him for Guthrie. Also, thinking about Milera for Dickson (or Hall). Strongly doubt Milera’s ability to score more than 50’s from here on in but hoepfully he can earn some quick cash.

  22. Im gonna keep Scotland, give him another chance
    Trades for this Week:
Move Smedts up forward, then do Higgins for Dempsey
and then Dickson for A.Kennedy….then i can move for Murphy next week

  26. So what are we doing with Mumford lads. This is now the big issue for me, back problems so early in the year, after a 2 week break no less, worrying signs to say the least.

If he isnt named tonight ill have to make a serious decision on him.

Thinking Sandi is the obvious one, other then that? NicNat, Sauce, Mcevoy, Kreuz? Decisions decisions.

  27. I like McEvoy, although Jacobs good early run could mean big points! I just don’t know whether Kreuzer with continue to score well when Warnock comes back.

Having said that, I am going to stick with Mumford.

  28. Definitely making at least one trade this week (Broughton -> Deledio) but what do people think about Coniglio. High priced rookie who hasn’t scored what I though he would (going at around 50 ave or something) and therefore won’t rise up that much in price. Is it worth downgrading him to someone like Greene who is averaging around 80? Or stick with him?

THUMBS UP – Keep him, he will be the next David Swallow!

THUMBS DOWN – You’re better off downgrading him to someone cheaper who will have a greater price rise!

  29. Need a hand.

Got 300K in the bank need to upgrade pfeffer whos rotting on my forward bench. thinking of bringing in someone under 400k leaving me with some money to upgrade Hale to a better ruckmen aswell any suggestions?????

forward line weak with a starting line up of Martin, Franklin, Sidebottom, Dangerfield, Porps, Kennedy (GWS) Pfeffer. SUBS: Dickson Rowe

Thinking Whitecross and Hawkins. Liking Whitecross looks to taken his game to another level.

  31. Should I bring darling in for j reiwoldt? He’s too up and down and after a 30 last week not impressed.

Or go Scotty selwood for Simon black? Blacks averaging 118. even though he will be out for three weeks. The way selwood is playing will Go up in price.

    Cheers boys

Thumbs up – Rhys stanley (saint kilda averaging 90.5 for 176k)
Thumbs down- Terry milera (also saints averaging 85ish but might not have as much job security with saad and schneider wanting his spot)

  35. To bring in Kennedy for Cunningham I need to sacrifice someone.

    Options are
    1.) Broughton out – IN Rance/Hurn/Dempsey

2.) Pavlich out – IN Cotchin

Thumbs up for option 1 or thumbs down for option 2. thanks all

  37. This trade was just completed by a guy I work with.
My first thought was stupidity, but it could be genius.

    OUT: Broughton – IN: Dempsey
(Sounds like a common trade this weekend – But as was pointed out, Mundy being selected probably won’t release GB from his BP role)
    OUT: Mumford – IN: Kreuzer
(Seeing alot of reports that Seaby is heading to Adelaide. This wouldn’t suprise me, because a massive ruckman like Mummy with a back complaint is pretty much useless, and it smells like a 2 week in a row disappearing act)

Aside from this – Added to his 40k he already had, he has just spent 2 trades to gain (based on last week) an extra 110pts (approx) and about $500k which he says means Clay Smith becomes Nicky Dal next week.

Just curious as to what you guys thought. I have GB but will hold tight. This could be the most reckless Round 3 trading I have seen. But it seriously doesn’t look that bad.
