Because Adcock is better and his price is going to go up a lot faster than Otten’s. So the net result of waiting for Otten to go up more and then getting Adcock would mean a net loss compared to doing the trade now.
Plus I still have five rookie defenders. The mistake was no going with my gut and getting Adcock from the start.
I’m happy with the trade – i’ve only used 2 to date and after I trade Coad out today i’m happy to leave the team alone for a whole (barring LTIs)
Thats my reasoning – not just randomly firing off trades.

The other option later would be downgrading Otten to get the cash to upgrade to Adcock, burning two trades – the net result here is better, less trades used, less cash spent, more SC Points on the field = winning

looks like your gonna have to do a few trades next week if you want to avoid a couple zero’s. pav, fyfe, mundy, broughton, lower, franklin and rioli missing, plus a couple of your emergencies may not play! Also swan, pendles, krakeour and dawes missing the next week, it’s not looking good in terms of keeping pace with the leaders. That is unless you burn some trades, but all of them except lower and krak are keepers, so no point trading. I’m with Scatts regarding Roo and Judd

Have you made these two trades yet? Your language in your original post on this topic idicates that you have traded, yet, the link provided by PA that you agree is your team, has no mention of these trades.
If you haven’t traded, then, you are now unable to trade Roo into Dawes until the end of the round, and, I am unsure as to why, in that case, you would be talking about them as completed trades.

Thanks guys for the likes and Deano for your comment, i have been looking at all the top 50 teams and confirmed that all the teams have pretty much the same players, and that there was only a difference of about 5-8 players that varied between teams, i also knew that the teams would change due to future trades, the gamble is if i dont make high risk changes know, i might only be keeping pace with the rest, i feel that by making these changes, pray to Jesus, Allah, & Buddah that my side doesnt get to many injuries or suspensions, that this tactic, which is very high risk and aggressive, put me in a position at an early stage of the season to be able to pull away from the rest and give me a bit of a lead, i know that there will be people thinkin im being too aggressive way to early, or that i have no idea what im doing, but i dont do anything cautious, i like to take the more aggressive / high risk approach, but then again, who won the race out of the tortoise and the Hare??

Agree completely with Deano’s call on not trading, but, I wonder if you would be better off not trading for either of the two you mentioned who shall have byes during SC finals and look towards a trade to say Montagna next week, Mitchell or Hodge the week after, or even Swan or Pendlebury the week after that.

I’m in the same boat with Boak, but I’m gonna wait till after this week. I’m looking at getting Watson or Mitchell. Watson’s next 5 weeks are against bottom sides so he should score well (he has a bye in there somewhere though) and Mitchell has been tearing in up (37 disposals last week). If i can afford Watson at the start of next week I will pick him up, if not I will have to wait another week with Boak since Hawthorn have their bye next week.

Suban to Toy and Krak to Fyfe looks good to me. Your backline looks alright with Goddard, Gibbs, Grimes, Hurley and some decent performing rookies (Heppell and Duigan). With Coad out, Toy should get a good run of games as well.

Jack Riewoldt. roughly $343,000 and a breakeven of 103 this week so possibly another price drop this week. Is it time to start considering him?
Didak is nearly a steal($440,000) as well, especially if he were to drop to $400,000 should drop again this week with a break even of 115.

i think keep knights, because he has a nice few games coming up including st kilda (i dont rate them) melbourne, gold coast, kangaroos and west coast. i think leave him until there and then trade him before bulldogs in round 13.
But i think krakouer, pitt trade is great, maybe keep money in bank(i know some people disagree on that)

hmm not much more i can think of. Coad was looking like a brilliant pick until injury struck. Not much else immediate gold i can think of besides fyfe, adcock (boats pretty much sailed) and moloney (BE of 12!)
keep an eye on hibberd but as a possible downgrade target for one of your rookies. watch out for didak’s price change this week, an elite st kilda midfielder (dal santo, montagna..) could be reaching a near basement price this season (i mean, how much worse could they get?)
give brian lake a couple weeks to drop in price as a potential upgrade target, and mitch wallis! if he plays this week, definitely should be considered in 2 weeks time.

That’s the $50,000 question!! I suspect this problem is not going away any time soon. Some golden tips about rookie selection (when choosing between Player A or Player B) include:
Weekly Team Selection Decisions
1. Team Announcement – Wait for teams to be named before making final decisions about your starting 22 (difficult when teams aren’t named before lockout, I know).
1a. Injury List – check to see if your player has torn his hamstring off the bone before putting him on the field.
2. Sub Risk – most teams seem to apply a rotation policy for subs so its worthwhile seeing if a player has recently been sub. Determine the Sub Risk factor and go with a player that has the lower risk.
3. Interchange Order – I/C4 – not a hard rule but, I/C players 1-4 are not named in alphabetical order which suggests the player named at I/C 4 has a high Sub Risk. Similarly, players named at I/C 5, 6, 7 are likely Emergencies.
4. Opponent – which player is likely to have the weaker opponent?
Longer Term Trade/Purchase Decisions
5. Job Security – for longer term decisions, which player is likely to play more games throughout the year?
6. Don’t make week-to-week decisions about your rookie purchases. Don’t just buy someone because they’ll make a few $K this week.
7. Cashcow or Keeper – decide what your strategy is and stick with it. Are you buying this guy to make money or to score points?
8. Don’t trade whilst drunk!

I’ve worked out that coaching mistakes in the first 3 rounds (based on a reasonableness assessment) cost me a total of 178 points and 13k positions. Now add McKernel’s 58.
Sigh.

Sounds like you’re spending a lot of time making calculations and wondering what might have been. Better to think more about the future than wasting time stuck in the past.
Think about what’s coming up and what your strategy will be, for example:
- Who’s making money and when will I buy/sell/upgrade them?
- Who’s coming off the injury list that might be well priced (e.g Mzungu, Scully (?)
- What will my team look like for league finals?

- Am I still kidding myself that I’m in the hunt for the $50,000? Maybe its time to apply Giller’s Law (aim for top 10,000) or set your own realistic target (e.g get higher than you are at end Rd5) or just focus on your League. These will be different strategies.
- Who am I playing next week? Who do they have in their team? What are the PODs? How can I psyche them out? Send a few txt msgs through the week…

Thanks Omen. Trying to better my decision making by looking at past mistakes. I look at my selections, EMGs and trades, and based on the available information and my knowledge at the time, would a reasonable person have made those decisions?
E.G. Rd 1 I picked Bewick over Heppell. Cost me 39 points. The more reasonable decision would have been Heppell base don preseason and blog talk.
Rd 3 I chose Otten (44) instead of Duigan (85). Otten scored 67 in Rd 1 and played Freo at home, while Duigan scored 59 & 78 and played pies. I consider my selection to be reasonble at the time so can’t complain against points lost.
It can be a bit subjective. Sometime you have to go with your gut. Plus I’m finding that I’m unreasonable…

VS has to do something about this, we should be able to make changes to our sides prior to each game in each round. They have the software to do it e.g Brissy v Saints game so there’s no excuse at all.

@ PA….I was thinkin that the price drop 4 Ablett would be big & that he’ll be affordable later on with curnow goin up so i switched with a cheaper premium & pocket the money to upgrade my rookie into another premium once their price rise goes up….risky but my strategy is buy as many premiums you can….at bargain buy prices.
last years winner had nearly all premiums on field last 5 rounds….even with a donut in last two rounds the winner still won cuz his team was able 2 score big numbers cuz he didnt hav any crappy rookies or underperforming mid range players

At the time (and still now) he was behind them for a ruck spot and behind Thompson, Grima and Tarrant for the key defender positions. After Tarrant’s efforts the last few weeks it’d be safe to assume that Pederson will slot into the backline next week at the expense of Tarrant.

Delicious is a pretty common nickname for Rioli. GAJ or Jesus works well for Ablett. Some of the more subtle ones do make it a lil hard like Dish (Petrie) but generally i think people’s use of the nicknames is pretty good.

I received my Blues Membership pack including bumper stickers – “No Passengers” (2 large, 2 small). I’ve found good use for two of them:
Large – goes well on the Falcon XR6 – 3 kid seats in the back leaves room for “No Passengers”.
Small – goes well on the back of my Yamaha R6 – at 250 kph – “No Passengers”

The player in question is Cameron Mooney, one the Geelong Football Club’s key position forward line players, and he will be replaced in today’s game by another Geelong Football Club player named Cameron Stokes. Like Mr Mooney, Mr Stokes plays in the Geelong Football Club’s forward line however he is a smaller player and will therefore play a different role to that of Mr Mooney.
As a side note Mr Stokes was controversially arrested for possession of the illegal narcotic Cocaine (Benzoylmethyl Ecgonine) in early 2010. Although this did cause a disruption to Mr Stokes career at the time it should have no noticeable effect on the game today.
