Top Seven Defenders

by Big Sexy on July 22, 2010

Having listed my top six midfielders, and a top seven forwards, I think it’s only fair to post up my top seven defenders in an ideal world right now:

1)    B Goddard 660k, ave 131

2)    L Hodge 569k, ave 124

3)    B Lake 582k, ave 110

4)    L Gilbee 485k, ave 102

5)    C Enright 423k, ave 95

6)    S Fisher 471k, ave 96

7)    P Duffield 455k, ave 95

Special mentions to Malceski, Kelly, Gilbert (could easily swap with Fisher), Shaw and Newman.  One of my worst team mistakes of the year was not getting Malceski at the start of the year.

The Big Sexy’s Back line is:

Goddard, Hodge, Gilbert, Enright, Duffield, Waters and Kennelly.

Emerg:  Silvangi & Roberton.

Good news for me is that Kennelly has really stepped up again the last two weeks.

I probably wont make any defensive changes going into finals unless I have two spare trades come prelim final.  I have 4 trades left, and one Fwd player upgrade I will make right before finals, and my other two trades are reserved for LTI’s.  I’ll upgrade Waters or Kennelly depending on form if I have trades left during finals.

I’m considering getting a def/fwd dpp and I’m thinking Waite or Grundy any thoughts. Motts will choose Waite no doubt

Nooice backs Glenny, like looking in a mirror. My advice would be Duffield as getting more midfield time since Barlow went out.

As of last week my backline is complete.
Goddard, Gilbert, Goodwin, Gilbee, Enright, Malceski, Scotland (Webberley, Silvagni)

Maybe I should have picked up Grundy, Guerra and Gwilt so I could of had an all G backline.

I’m thinking of adding tuck to my mids hoping he will be a high scoring unique unless someone can sway my thinking

Backs: Hodge, Goddard, Lake, Malceski, Gilbee, Gilbert, Enright (Roberton, Silvagni)
Mids: Swan, Ablett, Montagna, NDS, Selwood, Judd
(Bastinac, McNeil)
Rucks: Sandilands, Naitanui
(McNamara, McCauley)
Fwds: Chapman, Pavlich, ROK, D. Thomas, JPOD, Higgins, Jaensch
(P. Davis, D. Stewart)

My team’s nearly complete, but i only have 2 trades left with $42,800 to work with. I’m looking at downgrading someone like Phil Davis or Alex Silvagni for some extra cash then upgrade Jaensch to a premium, since my forward line is a bit light on.

Any help/feedback on the team or how i can improve my forward line would be helpful :)

Great team. Might want to save a couple of trades for finals.

Great team but are you happy with Nic Nat?

yeah Nic Nat has been pretty shocking most games this season. I haven’t traded him because i’ve been trying to better my other positions all season. He only cost me around 300k, so i guess i’m happy if he manages 40-70 each week, anything higher than that is a bonus.

Bit harsh on NicNat you blokes as he’s averaging 71.75 – the same as Hille, Clark, Jolly, Ottens and Tippet after starting well below their prices at the beginning of the season.

thanks mate, also struggling with the choice of captain this week since i’ve had it on GAJ every week so far, but hes looking distracted with a couple of 70′s in his last two games. Who would you pick as captain out of Hodge, Goddard, Montagna and Swan.

I also have had Gablett as captain every week. I know as soon as i take it off him he’ll get 200! Out of the players u mention I would put it on Swan as they are playing Richmond. Saints Vs Hawks will be a tough match and less likely to get huge scores.

yeah i’ve decided to go with Swanny this round. Like you said Ablett will probably go nuts and get like 500 just because i took it off him!

PA’s Backs
Hodge – Goddard – Lake – Grundy – H.O’Brein – Ellis – Waite
Bench: Waters – J.Hunt.
Might upgrade Waters or Hunt for Enright or Fish come SC finals time.

Got some nice uniques there PA, mine are:
Hodge, Enright, Fisher, Malceski, Hurn, Goodwin, Hargrave.
(R. Henderson, Webberley)
Come rd 19 and I have the cash to upgrade one to Goddard for the finals assault. Hurny is in the cross-hairs although it was heartening to see him running through the lines in the 2nd half last week.
